Bethesda Creates Super Nintendo-Inspired SKYRIM Box Artwork

Before this year, Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls series had never been on a Nintendo console. And while gamers will still have to wait two months for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to appear on the Nintendo Switch, the Bethesda team couldn’t resist putting something together for this weekend’s launch of the SNES Classic Edition. On the official Twitter account of The Elder Scrolls, Bethesda revealed what the box art would look like if Skyrim had been made during Nintendo’s 16-bit era.

It’s a nice piece of artwork that captures the spirit of that gaming era. The only disappointing thing about it is that Bethesda didn’t create a few 16-bit Skyrim scenes to go with the box art. Fortunately, there’s already something on YouTube that comes close to that. Julian van Reede posted a 8-bit retro trailer that looks a lot more 16-bit for Skyrim.

What would the famous Skyrim theme by Jeremy Soule sound like in the 16-bit era? There are actually several 16-bit and 8-bit covers of the theme on YouTube. However, we only found one cover that not only sounded like a genuine 16-bit theme but also seemed to keep the cover within the audio limits of a SNES. That version was created by Wingus Dingus, and it came out really well.
