SCREAM QUEENS Recap: Haunted House

We’ve finally made it to another episode of Scream Queens, and the first part in the series’ three-part Halloween special. Though this week’s episode wasn’t nearly as funny as previous ones, there were enough clues to fuel the Red Devil guessing games. On top of finding out important details about the baby of the Kappa Pledge who died in the infamous bath tub, the crew discovered what happened to the dead bodies that mysteriously went messing, and the identity of a strange lady cloaked in black.

This week’s episode “Haunted House” kicked off with a hilarious spoof of Taylor Swift’s 2014 Gift-Giving video. Instead of handing out Christmas gifts, Chanel sent decapitated heads, rotting pumpkins, severed legs and the like to fans in a phenomenon she refers to as “Chaneloween.” Unsurprisingly, all of the girls were thrilled with their spooky gifts. Aside from that, not much happened until the last 15-20 minutes of the episode.

We did however get this gem towards the beginning:

Oh Niecy Nash, how we love thee. As expected, Denise Hemphill continues to be one of my favorite characters on the show. After bringing up a bunch of clues (including a chainsaw) last week, Denise continued to accuse Zayday of being the red devil killer. The great thing is that it could be her, but it could also be a number of other people—especially since we now know there are a couple of killers running around. In addition to Wes and Gigi’s belief that Dean Munsch is the killer, Grace accused her dad, and Zayday pointed the finger back in Denise’s direction after revealing her failed attempt at pledging Kappa Kappa Tau. It’s safe to say there are motives around every corner.

We also found out that the bathtub baby was actually a girl, which rules out both Pete and Chad as the child. Grace and Pete (in their best Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey a la How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days cosplay) learned this bit of information after visiting the trailer of a former Kappa Pledge—who of course got murdered via lots and lots of stab wounds later on. When she recounted the story of the events that occurred following the pledge’s bathtub death, we got a better picture of Dean Munsch’s involvement in the crime. Apparently she put bags over the Kappa girls’ heads and drove them out to a remote location to bury the body. I mean when a dead student puts your job at risk, you gotta do what you gotta do.

Meanwhile, Zayday’s political aspirations were the other driving force of the episode. After she informed the Kappas that she’d be running against Chanel for KKT president and that she wanted to throw a Halloween-themed fundraiser to show how serious she is about the position, the Queen C threatened her by saying, “If I do murder anyone, it’s going to be you” and then ran off to her room to sharpen a bunch of kitchen knives—because that’s totally normal and not psychotic at all.

Zayday’s fundraiser planning, and Grace, Pete, and Denise’s sleuthing brought all four to a mysterious haunted house on Shady Lane. According to their library research, a mysterious hag cloaked in black took up residence in the home back in 1995. After neighbors heard a bunch of moaning, and saw the woman multiple times, the legend of the haunted house grew. When they brought up the fact that the timeline matched up with the bathtub murder, they figured the hag was taking care of the newborn baby.

While Zayday was busy planning the event, the Chanels got out their frustration by beating up a bunch of sexist guys:
