Enjoy RICK AND MORTY Szechuan Sauced Nuggets, No Brain-Link Simulation Required

Where were you the day Adult Swim changed everything? We are, of course, talking about how Rick and Morty rattled the internet/world by dropping their season 3 premiere episode on April Fool’s Day. The episode featured Rick waxing poetically about 1998’s McDonald’s Szechuan Sauce. Soon the fans became obsessed with the sticky stuff and impromptu sauce making sessions broke out throughout the land. (The land being YouTube.)

Since Szechuan Sauce is no longer readily available and the ingredients of chicken nuggets have long been suspect, the time has come to combine the two into one flavorful meal. Using a homemade recipe means you can make them any shape you wish, say—an oblong-headed mad scientist and his roundheaded grandson.

These tasty nuggs are the ideal snack for binge-watching Rick and Morty before the season 3 premiere. Sit back and enjoy the nuggety goodness.

Rick and Morty Szechuan Sauce Flavored Nuggets

  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • Fresh ground pepper
  • 1-1/2 cups breadcrumbs, for coating

You’ll Need:

  • piping bags
  • 8 ounces sour cream
  • blue food gel dye
  • black food gel dye
  • bright green food gel dye
  • ¼ cup BBQ sauce

To Make:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and prep baking sheets with parchment.
  • In a bowl mix together the ground chicken, egg, breadcrumbs, brown sugar, sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, garlic salt, ground ginger, and pepper.

  • Once combined, make 6 discs for Morty’s head (2-inch round), and 6 ovals for Rick’s head (3-inches long). Pinch the edges of Rick’s head into points to form his hair.
  • Coat the nuggets in breadcrumbs and place on the prepped baking sheet.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes until cooked through.
  • Let cool slightly on a wire rack.

  • In a small bowl, mix one third of the sour cream with blue food gel dye.
  • Place into a piping bag with a #5 tip.
  • In a separate small bowl, mix another third with black food gel dye, spoon into a piping bag fitted with a #5 tip.
  • Leave the last third of the sour cream as is and place into piping bag with a #3 tip.

  • To make Morty: dip the circular nugget into BBQ sauce to create his hair.
  • Use the plain sour cream to pipe eyeballs and black sour cream to pipe pupils, nose, and mouth details.

  • Use more sour cream to make his teeth.
  • Pipe plain sour cream for his eyeballs and black sour cream for his mouth and eye details.
  • For Rick: pipe blue sour cream to create his spiky hair.
  • Mix a small amount of leftover plain sour cream with bright green food gel dye.
  • Use a toothpick to add it to Rick’s mouth to make his spittle.
  • Serve as is or with sauce of choice.
