PROFESSOR MARSTON AND THE WONDER WOMEN Clip Shows That Nobody Thought Wonder Woman Would Work

By now, even if you aren’t a huge comic book fan, chances are you know the basic story of Diana Prince, a.k.a. Wonder Woman–we can thank Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot’s epic film for getting the good word out there. However, many still don’t know how the Amazonian princess first found her way into comic book history. It turns out the behind-the-scenes story is just as compelling as Diana’s. Luckily, the new film Professor Marston and the Wonder Women sets out to explain the early days of Wonder Woman and the secret life of the comic’s creator, Dr. William Moulton Marston.

We’ve got our first in-depth look at the film in this newly-released clip where Marston first explains his idea for Wonder Woman. Feedback is… skeptical, to say the least.

If you’re unfamiliar with Dr. Marston’s story, it’s a pretty incredible one. Marston was a psychologist and one of the inventors of the lie detector. Outside of work, he was happily married and involved, with his wife Elizabeth, in a polyamorous relationship with a mutual lover named Olive Byrne. This kind of thing was incredibly taboo back in the ’40s, so they had to live their life in secret to avoid having their reputations and lives destroyed. But it was Marston’s relationship with these women and the “secret identity” that he had to adopt to hide his truth that inspired him to write Wonder Woman.

Professor Marston and the Wonder Women is written and directed by Angela Robinson, and stars Luke Evans as Dr. Marston, Bella Heathcote as Olive, and Rebecca Hall as Elizabeth. You don’t have to wait too long to see this epic, true origin story as the film will hit theaters on October 13.
