Prince’s Unreleased Music and Concert Films Will Go Public This Summer

It was only yesterday that we finally got access to the bulk of Prince’s discography on streaming services like Spotify. Now, it appears we’re set to get even more material from The Purple One. Fans know Prince’s “vault” as a legendary trove of unreleased material from one of the greatest musicians of the past 50 years. This summer, we’ll get to hear (and see) some of what it contains (via Pitchfork).

While confirming the news of Prince’s return to streaming platforms, Warner Bros. Records also dropped the bomb that they’re remastering the penultimate Prince record Purple Rain, and releasing two albums of unreleased songs previously confined to the vault. These items, along with a couple new concert films, are set for release on June 9.

The label said in a press release that these releases aren’t simply banking on the currently lucrative Prince market, and that fans can expect a high quality product. “When we make any of Prince’s music available to fans — from the hits to unreleased gems — we are committed to upholding Prince’s high creative standards and we know fans will be thrilled when they hear these albums and see these films.”

We don’t yet know what these releases could be, but there are plenty of items in the vault that we’d be excited to have see the light of day. We previously discussed a few of them here, including more material with The Revolution, a potential collaboration with Michael Jackson, an album of children’s music, and other amazing material.
