PAX Prime 2015: MINECRAFT: STORY MODE Has a Telltale First

Telltale Games has been dominating the video game world over the last few years with hits such as The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, Game of Thronesand Tales from the Borderlands. This fall, their reach will stretch even further with Minecraft: Story Mode. It works much like the other Telltale games, with you controlling a character, and the choices you make determine how the direction of the story will go.

This may seem jarring to diehard Minecraft fans, as you won’t have to build your world before playing in because it’s already there for you. For those of you that prefer it old school, there are some creation elements to the game to keep you satisfied, while at the same time giving you a new Minecraft experience.

I was able to play two scenes from the first season, and I had great time. The tone is how a Minecraft game should be: light and fun. Even still, there were some zombies and monsters I had to fight along the way. The main character’s name is Jesse, and depending on how you choose your character, will be voiced by either Patton Oswalt or Catherine Taber. That’s right: for the first time in a Telltale game, you will get to choose what your character will look like. There are three types to choose from, either male or female versions of the character.

The story is the adventures of Jesse and his friends as they make their way to Endercon. We’re not about spoiling anything here, but we will say things don’t necessarily go according to plan. The gallery below shows some screenshots from season 1, including some of the different versions of Jesse.

Other voices in the game include Brian Posehn, Ashley Johnson, Scott Porter, Martha Plimpton, Dave Fennoy, Corey Feldman, Billy West, and Paul Reubens!

Minecraft: Story Mode will be available this fall on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Wii U, PC/Mac, iOS, and Android.

Telltale has done an amazing job over the years with its gameplay, allowing your choices affect HOW you play the game. Now they are allowing you to choose WHO you play the game as.
