New ONCE UPON A DEADPOOL Trailer Packs a PRINCESS BRIDE Parody

Their R-rated spin on superhero movies was a big reason why the  Deadpool movies have enjoyed such enormous box office success. But the  Ryan Reynolds-starring series is looking to reach an even broader audience this holiday season with the release of Once Upon a Deadpool, a PG-13 cut of Deadpool 2.A new trailer for this less-vulgar version of Deadpool is leaning into its kid-friendliness by utilizing Fred Savage of A Princess Bride fame. In a set-up much like that 1987 film—where Savage is read the story of Buttercup and Westley from his bed by his grandfather—Deadpool has trapped Fred in that nostalgic bedroom and is reading him the sanitized version of Deadpool 2.“Nobody does childhood innocence like you, Fred,” Deadpool explains. “Nobody.”

Though the trailer may be free of Deadpool‘s trademark cussing, the film has definitely retained the original’s edgy sense of humor. When Fred mentions that he prefers Marvel movies, and Deadpool tells him this is a Marvel movie, Fred responds, “Yeah, but you’re Marvel licensed by Fox. It’s almost like if the Beatles were produced by Nickelback. It’s music, but it sucks.”Once Upon a Deadpool will target a younger demographic that were previously unable to watch the hard-R-rated films. As Ryan Reynolds promised in a tweet when the film’s poster was released, “The only F word in this movie is Fred Aaron Savage.”

Once Upon a Deadpool will hit theaters this December 12. Are you excited to share the gift of Deadpool with a younger generation?
