New DEATH NOTE Poster Has Things Looking Dark (Exclusive)

New DEATH NOTE Poster Has Things Looking Dark (Exclusive)

If you had the power to choose who would live and who would die, how would you use it? Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s classic Death Note manga grapples with this question, as it tells the story of a high school student named Light Yagami who takes it upon himself to use the powers of a supernatural notebook to rid the world of evil people. But no one can play God and remain unchanged. In his pursuit of utopia, Light becomes known as Kira, one of the most prolific murderers who’s ever lived. Next month, Death Note is getting an American adaptation on Netflix, and we’ll soon see if the outcome of Light’s story still leads to a dark place.

In the film, Nat Wolff plays Light Turner, the teenager who realizes that the Death Note can kill anyone as long as he knows their name and face. Today, we’re debuting a new Death Note poster featuring Wolff in character as Light, with a few key words written in the background. But Light’s “justice” is subjective, and his actions will not go unnoticed.

The American Death Note adaptation was directed by Adam Wingard, and it also stars Margaret Qualley as Mia Sutton, with Shea Whigham as Light’s father, James Turner, and Keith Stanfield as L, an enigmatic investigator who has been assigned to bring down Light. Willem Dafoe is also in the cast as the voice of Ryuk, a demon who begins communicating with Light.

Death Note will premiere on Netflix on August 25.
