Nerdist Week at Believe in the Burrito

You knew we were gonna get to the burrito episode.

Yes, as we count down Five Nerdist Podcasts That Shook the World over at BBC America’s Anglophenia blog, the true origin of “Enjoy Your Burrito” had to be on the list. Certainly, I heard it from enough folks. So, today’s post over there is about the Rainn Wilson episode which includes, at the 56-minute mark, Jonah relating the story of what he then called “believe in the burrito” but which has since become our rallying cry, our motto, our E Pluribus Unum. And, yes, the picture above is the Actual Location of Jonah’s Actual Burrito; I happen to live not far from it, so I just stopped by and took a picture. I did not, alas, have time for a burrito, and without time to savor it, what good would it be? I’m not even living our own philosophy.  Sigh.

Go read the post at, listen again to the podcast below, and remember that this whole exercise is all about getting the word out that the Nerdist TV special is on BBC America on Saturday, September 24th at 10/9c. So get the word out, please. Thank you, and enjoy… you know.

i’ve started this guy every week, and smoohew im still in firstthank goodness for ppr at least, dude is averaging 12.02 points per game in my league, which is currently 22nd for running backs. I kinda wish he would get benched, so we could see what Ringer could do with extended playing timeVA:F [1.9.11_1134](from 1 vote)

I started listening, and I was enjoying Rainn (and everyone) so much that I forgot that the burrito story was coming, and then when I heard it I almost cried!

This podcast is special. (I know how that sounds, but come on, how else can I say it?)

  4. andy says:

please come do a live podcast in the uk chris!!! get bbc to send you guys here!

  5. Wade says:

So is this meant to be introductory to BBC folkses? I thought the muppets podcast was funny, but it’s not one that I would consider a benchmark, inflection point, milestone, or whatever. And the first ep as their first podcast is a cheat! You were just getting started!

Now the one with Rainn was a great one, even as it feeds the Burrito mythos. The Nathan Fillion has got to be one on this list. You guys got to basically hang out, he talked a ton about Firefly stuff, and he randomly started giving you his celebrity swag shit. It seemed that after that one, you guys got less ramshackley! And you really started catching some of these other folk making the promo circuit. The Nerdist live with Kevin Smith was one of the funniest you’ve ever done. So was the Black Dynamite live. One of my favs from the earlier time was I think with Felicia Day, you guys were in some random room and were having all kinds of weird audio issues. It was very very funny to listen to. The Adam Savage one was a great early one that kind of indicated this podcast would stand out. Some great comedy ones, maybe Gaffigan’s is my fav of that brand.

I’m guessing that for a BBC blog thing, the number one on the list is going to be one of the times Matt Smith was on the podcast. Duh.

(although they were great, and I liked his first time on)

“Enjoy your Burrito” is like the Nerdist fan’s super secret handshake that is not so secret because we welcome all. Great choice!

Oh and watch the Nerdist TV special is on BBC America on Saturday, September 24th at 10/9c!

  7. Chris Hardwick says:

We as in myself and the other folks at Nerdist. Why is that like pulling teeth to understand? Please don’t be rude to Perry. BBC asked us which episodes were turning points for the show. That’s what you’re seeing this week.

  8. Magnoliafan says:

    So who is “we” exactly?

    Jeez, it’s like pulling teeth.

  9. Joe says:

Grew up in Pedro, visit it almost weekly now had a many burrito there… Have to say it was always enjoyable.

  10. They’re not ranked. They’re just five milestones along the way, really to track the development of the show for BBC America readers who aren’t as familiar with Nerdist as we are. We specifically DIDN’T want to make a Top 5 (that was the original request) because we didn’t want to make that call. We decided to pick five shows that, together, will give people a better idea of what the Nerdist Podcast is, and what they can expect.

What’s up over at BBC America’s site is there to promote the show to new listeners/viewers, but we thought Nerdist regulars would want to follow along as well…

  11. Magnoliafan says:

So are you the only one who is ranking the Nerdist podcasts?
