I’m behind on podcasts so I’m adding my 2 cents.

There’s a difference between your mission statement and how you carry out that mission statement.   For example, the Help Desk’s mission statement “We seek to improve the student experience by providing excellence in computing and networking support to members of the URI community.”  That’s a pretty static mission statement.  To keep up with changing technology and the ever changing make up of the URI community, we are flexible in HOW we carry out that mission.    Everything we do ultimate serves that ideal of great customer service.  We have a 85% resolved on first contact when industry standard is 65%.  I hope that helps someone.  🙂

What is Nerdist Industries mission statement? Yes it is a business speak word but it’s really useful.  It’s like that word you concentrate on from the Nerdist Way. (I hope that didn’t sound snarky because it really really wasn’t. I think deeply about these things.)

  2. Steve says:

I laughed so hard when Thomas was talking about the CEO factory floor thing and then he realised he was paying Chris to talk about Godzilla dick.
    I laughed so hard.

  3. Ado says:

Great talk, really interesting stuff. One thing that would have be great to hear Thomas Tull about would be piracy. Money spent on marketing, trying to get people into the cinemas for the ‘event’ picture, and still there must a multi million dent in take due to piracy.

  4. Ruben says:

Ep 516 was great.  It’s always interesting to hear back story about Nerdist and its parent company.  Also great to listen to an interview non artist or “non-creatives.  Thanks!!

  5. Tim says:

Digging the new site Chris. Also your job as host of @midnight seems akin to game mastering. Trying to steer the ship while ensuring everyone has a good time. Keep up the good work.

  6. GrumpyFrench says:

Oh goody, a tablet-only UX experience with giant images and very little info. And I can’t find a way to download the podcasts like I used to. I have a real computer, dammit!

  7. Nerdzerkerzero says:

Couldn’t find a picture where he looks more like an uptight white guy?

  8. jimh0ffman says:

I love that he worked so hard on the trademark Godzilla roar.  NAILED IT!  That semi-metallic tone.. PERFECT! I’m so psyched to see this! So is my son.

  9. tomK says:

    Chris Hardwick interviews his boss.

  10. Nathan says:

In response to the above douchelord…Hardwick totally didn’t come off as a brown-noser here. Not at all. Keep doing your thing, Chris. You’re sort of killing it out there.

    • Nathan says:

**Douchelor dis below me. Ah. I now see the reply buttons. Still getting used to the new site. Which I’m digging, btw.

  11. Reen says:

Your enthusiasm, positivity and humor are infectious……I need to be dipped in hand sanitizer.    Seriously, thank you for doing all you do!!!  Best of luck with the new site!!!!

    • Reen says:

Oh and you are one of the reasons I have the nerve to wear a Tardis dress to work and let my freak flag fly.    Damn now I do need to get back to work!  Thanks!!!

  12. Dave says:

A podcast dedicated to kissing your boss’s ass? No thanks.

    • What do I have to do to get a douchelord like yourself to stop listening to altogether? The sad part for you is that you’d give up potentially learning valuable things from a wise person because your comfort zone is rejecting thing based on no other reason than being a smarmy dick. Another dear friend of mine who has done really amazing things in this life has a saying that I am willing to bet applies to you: “People are where they are for a reason.” Good luck with stuff, Snarkenstein! Judging by this and your other equally rude posts on the site, you probably need it.

Ok troll feeding hours are over now! Come back tomorrow, folks!

      • Stephanie says:

Hahahaha! Chris, you are awesome. I love your honestly and I 100% agree with you. You sir, are a wonderful person. I love the new site. As a web developer I have to say you and your team did a great job.

      • Reen says:

Snarkenstein!  I am going to use that in a sentence today.

      • SteveDavey22 says:

HA! I almost feel bad about how much I enjoyed your response… Almost. You’ve got to enjoy the little things in life, like imaging Dave Snarkenstein’s face when he saw you actually replied. Man, the site looks awesome, the podcast was great and the podcast studio looks fucking amaze-tastic! Nice. I look forward to more.

      • Dave says:

Snarky? Yeah I’ll admit to being snarky. One has the tendency to do that online. But I won’t apologize to someone who’s stock in trade is snarkiness. “Stuff”, dear sir? My stuff is working hard and keeping food on the table for my family. Thank you for the well wishes.
You’re right, I did prejudge this podcast and I’m sure Mr. Tull is exactly where he is for a reason but that doesn’t automatically make him excellent podcast fodder. So I made a judgement call, I decided this podcast wasn’t for me. I passed. But you see Chris I wasn’t the only one who made that judgment call, I was just the only one to say it here.
So my dissenting opinion makes me a “douchelord”? That’s fine. I’ve been called worse. I just didn’t realize that the only posts that can be made here are the ones that agree with you 100%. No quarter given. As such you’ll find this to be the last time I’ll ever post here. And given your desire for me to “stop listening altogether” I’ll be happy to comply. Lord knows I don’t need the grief.
Thanks for the laughs and good luck in your future endeavors, even if I do disagree with them.
As for the “rude” posts, the only times I recall ever posting here was to voice my dislike of an unfunny video (again my opinion) who’s only existence was to highlight boobs and butts. I felt it to be pandering. Also a bad attempt at a joke I admitted to on an Indoor Kids page. So if you consider that rude. Well then my friend I can’t do a thing for you.
P.S. You’ll have to forgive my scattered thoughts and bad grammar, you see I need all the help I can get.

  13. Tyler says:

Definitely liking the new site. Kind of confused, though. Is the audio from this podcast terrible or is it just me? It sounds like it was recorded with an exceptionally lossy codec. The intro sounds normal, though, so I’m guessing it was just an issue with the setup for the interview part.

Ok, back to listening! Sorry to complain. I don’t want to be whiny, but it seems like it would be pretty actionable feedback for the future! Thanks for everything!

    • We recorded in a new studio that we built for video podcasts (and thing that will start happening soon!). The electrical needs to be upgraded because all of the new equipment has been causing a shitty hum. We’re working on it! Thanks, Tyler!

      • Tyler says:

Oh! Now I hear it! It’s not the codec, it’s from aggressive noise cleaning trying to remove the hum. Sounds like Reaper’s subtract filter (although I am sure other noise removal technologies are similar). I’ve had better luck with Audacity’s noise removal because it doesn’t leave so many ghostly sounds.

Thanks for the reply. I’m excited to check out some video stuff, but hopefully that doesn’t mean we’ll be losing any focus on the audio podcast format. It’s just really hard for me to consume video content with my work/commute situations.

  14. Kevin says:

Thrilled with the new layout and thoroughly enjoy these pod casts. As someone who is trying to make film and web series, and looking to find my footing and place, episodes like these are a real learning experience. Thank you

  15. Ollie Jay says:

I’ve always been endlessly fascinated with this guy, great to hear about where he came from etc. The podcast is great, but sometimes like today, an episode really stands out.

  16. Jess says:

mr hardwick I am a nerd and startled and frightened by change but I am trying to like your new site and navigate my way around it. I think it will be okay. Also this interview was not as dull as I’d feared. Yay!

    • ColinJ says:

I’m a little bummed that we can log in with that much-hated pile of crap Google+ but not Disqus.

  17. I think I like the new site. It will take a day or two to tell.  I will I say I do enjoy the new media player quite a bit, and that I don’t have to click over to Youtube to watch it in a decent size/resolution.

  18. Matt says:

I’m very pleased with the new site, congrats.

I can’t help but worry that one day, when Nerdist becomes more popular, it’ll be lost for it’s true fans. The irony being of-course that I give my best wishes to Chris and the Nerdist families growth.

Hey Kyle, hope your day is nice.

  19. Wildride says:

Wearing a clown outfit is just another form of dressing up.  It’s clownsplay.

  20. BassBone says:

Great interview! So is the buzzing coming through the recording the haunted studio Matt Mira mentioned a couple FeaBs ago?

  21. e-mc says:

This happened on the Internet:Chris Hardwick was quoted as saying- “I have seen clips and it looks amazing” about which movie?
    A. Robot the remakeB. Pacific RimC. the new Godzilaa
It’s Thursday so the correct answer is ALL THREE!POINTS!!(track record?)

Incidentally the site looks great and Tull seems like a cool guy.

    • Thanks! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate those words. It’s always a bit of a nail biter to change something people are used to but it’s necessary to evolve. Now I say that YOU are amazing! Even though it’s Wednesday.

      • Jhg says:

Like the look from a design standpoint.  From a fan standpoint…give me a few days to let it absorb into my soul and make me forget the old site style.  Or, just post a picture of matt in a tophat with a monocle and a cat.  That’ll distract us all enough.

      • e-mc says:

It is Wednesday,- I have been traveling so much I must have time traveled.Points!-damn that is infectious.
