Where in the Galaxy is Grand Admiral Thrawn?

  1. So good, I have been making a run for the last 2 months of listening to every show, this one was my favorite. I like it because Jonah and Matt get equal playing time as everyone else, and the songs at the end blew me away.

Anyway thanks for the pods guys.
P.S. I got into this podcast because of FEAB

  2. Michael says:

Youtube has lots of hits for “game of thrones theme on guitar”, so not sure which one Jonah meant (at 28:04).

But “the kid that plays the Simpsons theme with two guitars” (28:13) is presumably:

  3. Marie says:

Thank you so much for singing that last song. You were awesome!

  4. alexg says:

I came on here to comment on how fuckin’ awesome Chris’s rock-singing was, but I see that’s already been taken care of, so i’ll just leave this here:
Game of Thrones opening titles, with lyrics sung by someone who sounds like he’d be a big fan of the D.

  5. Mandy says:

    Panty dropper.

  6. Drakeo says:

WOW! what a great episode this was!

Chris and the D FUCKING KILLED!!!!!!

    Loved the REO Speedwagon cover!

    MORE OF THIS!!!!!!

  7. Kevie (rhymes with Chevy) says:

I tried to write a general quemment, but it seems broken.

I think this is a correctly relevant place to post:

Wow. I just want to thank you for mentioning the “human centipede” enough to pique my interest and morbid curiosity. Fortunately it was on Netflix.

I can’t get it out of my head and will likely have nightmares tonight,

    I blame you.

    Just kidding, love you guys.

    (srsly, tho….nightmares…)

  8. Jake says:

On Blazing Saddles, I saw it on the big screen this June at the Arclight on a visit to L.A. Most of the jokes held up and the packed house roared the whole time. Except for every time they used the n-word. Then the place went deathly silent.
    Which was interesting.
Nazis, gay jokes, anti-semitism, violence against women, hilarious in context. That one word………..nope.

  9. Jonathan says:

I played Grand Theft Auto V from three in the afternoon on release day until six the next morning. Straight. I had food delivered, so I didn’t even have to move to eat. If Matt took Jonah’s breath away with six hours, this timeframe might kill him.

  10. Jennifer says:

Wow Chris! Amazing singing. I hear you play around singing in episodes but this was more real. When you do the playing around you should sing like that. Or record more songs more often. Now I can see how you can kill at Karaoke! I need to check out some Hard and Phirm now. Lol. 🙂

  11. Rawmeat says:

chris needs to do more singing with the guests

  12. Vince Fango says:

Holy shit cakes! Best of show indeed! Great podcast guys!

  13. Coleman says:

When you were talking about Game of Thrones and said something like “It’s good and I like it, I just wish it was about 20% more magic” and suggesting what you’d like to see (which I think anyone should do and am 100% fine with) I couldn’t help but think of the people who comment on this board. Folks who say more or less the same thing about your podcast are quickly berated and mocked with “I want exactly what I want, when and how I want it” by the guardians of Nerdist. Just saying.

  14. Jerry says:

FYI, the Busta Rhymes movie they mentioned is Breaking Point :

  15. Kevie (rhymes with Chevy) says:

I know everybody has already been saying this but you have an awesome singing voice. As for the jazz thing I didn’t feel like you were being disrespectful. I have played jazz for several years and I haven’t taken the time to become good at improv, but I know plenty of people who are and I know it takes a lot of skill.

  16. Rob S. says:

I can’t NOT say this. About the 2nd season of “Murder She Wrote” they sent that lady off traveling. She would go on vacation or a book tour. During the last season they would stick backdoor pilots in there. She would sit down and talk about her new book ideas. I know this stuf. I wish I didn’t, but I do.

  17. Jack briefly mentioned the drummer who did the super mario cover, here’s the link
His name is Andre Vadrucci, also known as Vadrum, and he is fucking amazing if you have never seen him!

  18. Trystan White says:

You guys made me realize that I really want a Hard ‘N Phirm, Tenacious D Wanted Dead or Alive cover.
    Great episode!

  19. Jennifer says:

Chris singing “Wanted: Dead Or Alive” is really hot.

  20. Richard says:

Sorry About the spelling. iPad autocorrect ftl

  21. Richard says:

Omg Chris I fucking loved that Bon Jovi cover! Awesome voice dude, use fit more often 🙂

  22. Gee says:

Should have arranged the D’s pod for 5 shows time. #420 would just be more apt.

  23. Three Toes of Fury says:

Is there anything better than a Tenacious D and Nerdist collaboration?

    No…No there isnt.

3ToF…looking to take Lee’s place some day.

PS: please please please tell me they’ll be streaming the concert? If not, i need 4 fellow nerdists to strap Go-Pro cameras to their head and film everything, all day, from all 4 stages and upload. Thanks in advance!

  24. Molly says:

That D/Nerdist collab was seriously wonderful

  25. Dave says:

Ummmm, did anyone else know Chris could sing so well?! That just blew my mind. And him singing with the D made it so much better. Love the podcast, it gets me through the long days at work. Thanks guys.

  26. Kevy Metal says:

Just when I think I’m done with the D, this comes along and entertains the shit out of me. Nice work.

  27. Kristoffer says:

the D are champions! i love the d

  28. mark says:

So weird, I was listening to the old one yesterday with no idea a new one was being posted! Looking forward to this one.

  29. Steve says:

    Great show!

  30. nOokaV says:

My feels! My feels are acting funny with the singing and chanting!

  31. Kendall says:

Chris is the craziest kind of singer. I’ve seen him sing several times and even with the medium range songs he belts out the notes which makes it seem like he is struggling seemingly indicating that he’s just a mediocre singer. But then every once in a while a song changes his higher range like Keep on Loving You that justifies belting out every note. And I’m like “Holy crap!? He’s absolutely amazing.”

He’s kind of like vocal equivalent of Joaquin Phoenix’s character in Signs where people shake their heads because he swings at every ball but when he actually hits the ball, jaws drop. When Chris said in the episode that he only ever sings from his throat it was like hearing Joaquin say “it felt wrong not to swing”. Kind of gives you goose bumps and takes away any doubt on why they hired him for Rock of Ages.

  32. newnick says:

good to hear The D is back on the upswing! love those guys.

the songs at the end put a huuuge smile on my face.
    great episode.

  33. chris hardwick says:

@BassBone: you’re right you’re right! I probably would like it. In fact, I know I like good jazz. I think for me, though, jazz has the same thing that improv has–most of it’s not amazing because people think of it as “free form, so anyone can do it!”. When you see an incredible improvisor, it floors you. Jazz is the same. However, we’re pretty respectful on the podcast about stuff so maybe let me slide a little on this one? WINKY EMOTICON.

    Arpeggiated sax solo,

  34. Ryan says:

Pretty much this. GoT has the production value and storytelling The Walking Dead should have gotten, but instead the writing has become terrible.

On a lighter note, great episode. TD always bring the crazy to whatever interview they do, and Chris’s singing voice was great.

  35. ThyHoopyFrood says:

Replace everything you said about Game of Thrones on this podcast with The Walking Dead and we’re on the same page Chris. Replace “magic” with “zombies.”

  36. Alec says:

Matt Mira, why have you not been on a Mission Log supplemental episode yet?!?!

  37. BassBone says:

Once again whenever the subject of jazz comes up Chris just shits all over it and makes fun. Just because you don’t understand something doesn’t mean it’s worthy of ridicule. Why not take a few minutes and talk to a jazz fan without trying to be funny. As someone musically inclined I bet you’d love it.

  38. LJ says:

I would totally make out with Chris Hardwick’s not kidding around singing voice. And I am very disturbed by that.

    Great episode.

  39. drew says:

bravo, chris bravo!!… encore encore encore!!!

  40. Brian says:

Chris, your voice is fucking awesome.

  41. Nichole says:

I happened to be reading an article about Mia Farrow talking about Woody Allen maybe not being the father of Ronan just when you started talking about Woody Allen.

I just got the mental image of Jack Black looking at Emmys red carpet pictures and started laughing.

The White Walkers still haven’t really “paid off” yet in the books; but it’s coming close!

Chris actually has a good singing voice; he probably could have been in a mid-90s “alternative” band a la The Verve 😉

  42. josh c says:

Tenacious D IS the greatest band on the planet. Jack is my favorite everything, ever.

P.S. The drummer he was talking about is Vadrum, he did a lot of covers including The D’s Classico.
