Where in the Galaxy is Grand Admiral Thrawn?

  1. DickAPeña says:

I love you Jonah, you’re hilarious, but quit being a dick. Great work fellas.

  2. NotAClosetConservative says:

To start this, I only in the last several months started listening to podcasts, and Nerdist is by far my favorite. I have lol’d many times and it has been good.

I just listened to this today. The discussion at the end was good I thought. It also seems to show how depressingly more clear that the two ends of the ideological spectrum we have in America are getting more separated instead of less so.

If you claim to champion diversity and tolerance, can you allow yourself to dismiss someone else’s opinion even if you disagree?

If you claim to hate labels and want to treat people as individuals, can you allow yourself to use labels even on those with whom you disagree?

We as humans seem pre-disposed to assume that or those we don’t understand are evil. This goes for both sides of the spectrum. Those that align to the left have an almost fundamentally different view and understanding of the world than those that align on the right. Such that even those in the middle of the left and right seem to have a fundamentally different view and understanding of the world. Both sides treat the other as the worst thing to happen to the world, ever.
The trajectories both sides seem to be on will not end in common ground unless both sides decide to turn around.

Please note that this “rant” is more to offer a calm and more reasoned method of asking those who read to take a closer look at their own actions. You are justified in asking if I do the same. The answer is, I try, but I do not always succeed.

    P.S. –

  3. Rebecca says:

Since I recently listened to a podcast discussing the differences between Jesus and Mithras, I thought I’d link it here.

Kumail’s a funny guy! Thanks for having him on Nerdist!

  4. Robin says:

Catching up on both Nerdist and Girl on Guy today, so I got double Kumail and it was delightful.

    seaQuest reference FTW!

  5. Andreas says:

If you’re afraid of dolphins just stay out of water?

Well, that’s what they said to people fearing sharks. Then came Sharknado…

Be afraid. Be very afraid 😉

  6. Coleman says:

The difference between Glenn Burke and Jason Collins is that Burke did not announce his homosexuality to the general public. He lived as an openly gay man while playing for the Dodgers and A’s, but it was never specifically addressed in the media until he was no longer an active player. Collins announced his homosexuality and is still pursuing a contract for the upcoming NBA season. I’m not nitpicking about who should be considered first, but there is a difference.

I know you don’t follow sports, but come on: Jason Collins’ announcement was covered pretty extensively by the national (non-sports) media. You’ve had several athletes on the podcast and profess that they’ve all been better than you expected. Did you follow Chris Kluwe’s issues when he was cut by the Minnesota Vikings (at least partially due to his outspokenness)? He is now a member of the Oakland Raiders (competing for a job) and his book Beautiful Unique Sparkleponies is now available. Please consider catching up with him.

And thanks for the free podcast.

  7. Joe says:

Could a Christian conservative and a liberal atheist become friends through video games?

  8. Anna says:

I fucking love Kumail. This was one of the best Nerdists ever. Fantastic discussion!

  9. three toes of fury says:

woot! great podcast!! also, Kumail, AWESOME job on your first hour comedy special which aired on CC last weekend. twas hilarious!

Peace & Hidden room in Atari 2600 Adventure

  10. ricky says:

i loved this episode just them coming and ill keep on listening! lol great job with it guys!!

  11. robopanda says:

    @David – Here’s Bill Burr’s Philly rant (NSFW audio)

Unrelated “that guy” podcast correction: Jason Collins wasn’t the first openly gay active player. Glenn Burke came out in 1976 and kept playing for the Dodgers. That doesn’t diminish Collins’ coming out, of course.

  12. jessica says:

this was so great i’ve listened twice already. i L Kumail and Emily and the Indoor Kids and you should have Emily on next 🙂

    super-excite to see Beta Male.

    yay! awesome ep, doods!

  13. thirwell says:

I love Kumail – super excited to hear this one, but Skyrim spoilers in the first 5 minutes? wtf?

  14. Spencer says:

Mithras is the Persian god of light…Chris was trying to think of Zoroastrianism and said Mithraism. That being said great episode. MC Frontalot needs to do the show here is one of his songs

  15. Haley says:

Scrambled eggs all over my face! What is a boy to do?

@Eddy: It’s from Comedy Bang Bang

  16. Marcus says:

“Interesting turns” are my favourite thing about Indoor Kids, from video games to social/political/gender issues.

  17. David says:

Can someone add a link to the Bill Burr Opie and Anthony performance discussed?

  18. Mike Vannorman says:

Great episode! I definitely agree with Kumail on the chris broussard part.

  19. Sangria says:

The special is really SUNDAY @ Midnight. That damn confusing Midnight times.

  20. bastien says:

Wow. Chris’ TJ Miller impersonation is incredible!

Sorry, Petey Pants, I think you’ve been usurped.

  21. Grope says:

Damn! I wamt to listen to this but this would be great for Monday……Argh I can’t decide!!!

  22. One Point Eight Percent says:

  23. One Point Eight Percent says:

He probably scrapped it off the bottom of a barrel.

  24. Stephen C says:

Kumail’s views on Islam/religion are great to hear, and made my otherwise boring day incredibly happy. As a former citizen of a Muslim-contirlled country myself (and current citizen of a secular country), I always try to make the same points – and now I feel a little less like a lone idiot. Thank you.

I’m so excited about Beta Male! I was sad back in June when I thought I missed it. I’m glad to know I didn’t.

  25. Eddy says:

I’ve heard Kumail do the whole repeating “my wife” thing on a few podcasts I’ve heard him in and I’ve been wondering where that’s from.

  26. Joshua Bryan Hammack says:

Yeah I have been listening to the Indoor Kids since nearly episode 1. About time… Willis.

  27. Andrew says:

Wow, my post reads pretty condescending at second glance. Oh well. Not trying to be a dick, just offering some (hopefully) constructive feedback.

  28. One Point Eight Percent says:

    I second that emotion.
    Favorite and retweet.

  29. Hananh says:

Hi Chris, you and Kumail were on fire in this episode! I’ve been listening for a long while and I love every podcast, but this one made my day. The topics you covered really gave some insight into what the life of a comic truly looks like. I know you are so busy all the time and I just wanted to let you know that I genuinely enjoy everything you put time into creating. Keep living the dream! -Hannah (:

  30. Andrew says:

Chris, next time the subject of internet trolling is broached with a guest, please consider not dwelling on it. It’s well-worn territory on the podcast by this point.

  31. omaalex says:

I think dip shit comes from way back in the day when the job “honey dipper” existed. Seems like a pretty “shitty” job. Nyuk-nyuk-nyuk. You’re welcome. As always, great show!

  32. Jacquie F. says:

If you guys just played Skyrim on PC you could get mods to fix all the complaints you had!

  33. Jake says:

Huh, I didn’t even realize he was never on here… I hear him on so many Podcasts that I just assumed he’d be on Nerdist at least once.

  34. I only have one thing to say: It’s about fucking time. 🙂

  35. Jon says:

Been waiting for Kumail to be on… he’s been incredible on the JESELNIK OFFENSIVE.

Can’t wait for his special. His joke delivery and stage presence are incredibly funny.

I love when the nerdist has comedians on… the conversations just seem so much more chill. Like hanging out with a group of old friends. Another home run (that’s when the ball goes over the fence, Chris) Nerdist. Keep it up.
