Nerdist Podcast: Kevin Smith #3

Kevin Smith is back on The Nerdist! The guys talk about how much they loved the first time Kevin was on the show, and the discussion turns to talk about where the famous Silent Bob trench coat came from, and how social media has had such an important impact on his career.

Kevin also talks about a Craigslist ad he read on his podcast one day, for a man who was willing to let someone stay in his home for free under the contingent that they wear a walrus suit; during the podcast, Kevin and Scott Mosier ended up breaking down the plot for a film based on this ad. Kevin pleaded with his listeners to tweet #walrusyes or #walrusno to him if they thought he should work on a script based on this idea. The idea turned out to be wildly popular, and the result is his new movie Tusk!

See Kevin’s new movie TUSK, in theaters this Friday, September 19th!

Science Explains Why Your Cat Keeps Knocking Stuff Over

  1. Nick says:

Mr. Smith I got a great idea for a movie that I think you could make alive, seriouly!

  2. Stephen Dias says:

Kevin Smith is always entertaining; I could listen to him talk for hours. The same goes for Chris Hardwick and Wil Wheaton. Now, if only the three of them would do a podcast together. Hmm…

  3. Drowning says:

Listening to this over and over and over and over and over. Seriously. Like a long drink of water to a guy who feels like he’s dying of thirst.

  4. tanbee says:

    this podcast was incredible !

  5. shanon says:

the gold nugget in this is the fan theory that Fonzy on happy days is gay

  6. bill nye says:

Im going to get stoned and go see TUSK as soon as it comes out in my town! and im gonna love it, I promis you

  7. isidkr says:

Geez, I wish Jonah Ray was on every episode. He’s the best!

  8. A friend of mine and I started our own podcast because of all the words of encouragement from you guys and other podcasters over the years. This episode fully cemented that what we’re doing is right and good, and that starting to create our own thing was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. Thank you all! Please keep doing EXACTLY what you’re doing and especially keep doing it YOUR way. Much love, MJS

  9. Luanne says:

I’m glad to hear Matt is buckling down & buying a house instead of another guitar.  Good job!

  10. Ross says:

Love that running joke w/the phantom bookmark. Reminds me of a more complicated version of Alec Guinness and Grace Kelly sneaking a tomahawk into each other’s hotel beds over a 25-year period.

  11. Ben says:

I just want Kev to lose weight so we get to keep him for longer.

    another episode with Kevin Smith!!!

    Long Live Vader Pussy!!!

  13. Jawsphobia says:

We’ve seen Kevin thin in photos lately. How is that going and was he fitter at the time of this podcast?  Also, the Fonz gay thing is not new.  Fairly funny though far fetched.

  14. Fartbooty says:

Don’t talk shit about Christopher Cross lol #sailingstheshit

  15. Max says:

This is a great episode but I just got back from Kumail’s X-Files Files podcast and Smith says word-for-word the same thing, which is fine (he’s marketing his movie) but I wish he’d stop co-opting other people’s podcasts for this.

  16. Ash says:

As a guy in Nebraska, I’d just like to say I’d be pissed if Kev Smith DID NOT make Yoga Hosers! Long Live the True North Trilogy!!!

  17. Ricardo says:

It’s a mushroom duxelles, not a compote. Sheesh Matt.

  18. Christian says:

Awesome podcast like always 🙂 Speaking of Neo.. Any plans to have Keanu Reeves on? Have a great day nerdist!

  19. zylla says:

    keep kyle off the air

  20. rnbld says:

What’s the song playing in the background during the intro
