Science Explains Why Your Cat Keeps Knocking Stuff Over

  1. Kate says:

Don’y you think Joel should do a comedy of some sort next? Holder from The Killing was a fun character to watch and had a good sense of humor.

  2. Yeah Joel is right. Visiting Sweden is the best in July-Sep. Rest of the year you’re just try to fend yourself agains the cold and the shitty weather mother nature finds fitting throwing at ya. And let me tell ya dude, mother nature is a nasty coldhearted bitch.

  3. Aaron says:

Joel’s right… Spielberg’s Empire of the Sun is what introduced the world to a young Christian Bale.

What blows my mind about that movie is seeing a 20-something Ben Stiller, looking all adult, playing right alongside Christian Bale, who is knee-high to a grasshopper. I guess I had never realized almost a decade separates them in age in real life, so when I first saw that movie (way after Bale was a super-famous A-lister), watching those two actors together on-screen felt so surreal.

I also realize I contradicted myself when I said that Empire of the Sun introduced Bale to the world, then went on to say that I didn’t see the movie until well after Bale was famous. Clearly, I’m not representative of “the world”… but I am authorized to speak on its behalf.

  4. Diana says:

So I really like the new robocop movie. It was awesome. It was a perfect way to reboot a movie franchise, my sister and I went and she was not looking forward to it, but decided to go, and she thinks it is one of the better movies that she has seen in a long while. I enjoyed this interview., joel just seemed like a regular normal person. Which is probably hard to come by in his business. I hope you interview him again. It also helps that he is one gorgeous man. I too want to visit Norway, Sweden, and Finland. So it is good to know that July to September are the best times to visit. Oh, and maybe when the killing is done, he can guest star on the walking dead lol.

  5. Jenny says:

Umm, did you really have your hand on his leg? Not judging…Swedes are irresistible.

  6. bret says:

Wow! You Mr Hardwick is a excellent liar. I just saw robocop 10 mins ago.. And its not very Good. More like very, very bad.
Then again im not the taste-Police.

  7. Pete W says:

Brill. Thanks @Chris and @Weebee. Will be listening to this tomorrow morning then. Looking forward to Robocop too, read some good reviews.

  8. amysrevenge says:

I thought Kyle’s “ramps dot rom” joke in the intro was really funny. Even though I was walking to the bus and it was -12F outside I laughed until I cried, and tears and snot froze into my beard. So thanks for that…

  9. Weebee says:

@Chris regarding ” you should also know that I responded to you before I saw your 2nd post” and “killing spoilers”

Carl Sagan must have heard me praying in my second post. Thanks Carl Sagan, beloved son of science.

Also, there were zero killing spoilers. Lot’s of spoilers about how much Joel’s nuts got pinched by the Robocop suit, but nothing else was spoiled.

  10. SeaAtl says:

I was an exchange student in Sweden a long time ago (around the same time as the “hip-hop” phase mentioned in the podcast). All of the exchange students in the school had to take an English class besides the English class they took with their Swedish classmates. It was so weird and unnecessary. We already had opportunities to hang out with each other.
Swedes are great at English but I had a few teachers who I assumed weren’t confident in their English after our first conversation so they told me to just hang out in the library during that class time. I read a lot of books that year. Didn’t help me get to know my class though since in high school over there you basically go to every class with the same group of people.

  11. Chris Hardwick says:

@Pete: someone would have to confirm this but I am 99% certain that there are no Killing spoilers.

  12. Pete W says:

Are there any spoilers for The Killing in this? I’m almost done with season 2, but don’t wanna listen to this yet if its going to ruin it

  13. Christoph Zulle says:

    Great guest.

  14. J. Smith says:

Why does it feel like you are grooming Kyle? Is he going to replace Jonah? Was that last hostful a sign of things to come? Are you removing the tumor before it spreads and kills the show?

    I am kidding.

I loved this episode. I really like Joel and I wish you had talked a bit more about The Killing. If you have not watched it Chris, shame on you. Joel is outstanding.

  15. Alec says:

It all works out. Sweden is basically the America of Scandinavia, right?

  16. todd says:

I am starting to have a huge crush on Kyle. To my mind he is what would happen if Matt ate Jonah.

  17. Pedak says:

“Yo Lindo, come wit me if y’all want to live.”

    If Holder was Robocop.

  18. Chris Hardwick says:

    @Mark: yup

  19. Mark says:

    Isn’t he dating Olivia Munn?

  20. Viv says:

My guess re the biggest difference between the arts in Sweden and the U.S. has a lot to do with the amount of sun shining in those countries.

  21. Chris Hardwick says:

@Weebee: you should also know that I responded to you before I saw your 2nd post, so I genuinely was responding to the Gary Oldman thing. I do respond to twat monsters a lot, but it’s more like dealing with hecklers. I promise I respond way more to nice people! 🙂

  22. Weebee says:

You are so amazingly nice Chris. I am now so elated that I have been ejected from my chair by the pressure of my own ejaculate! You have turned an incredibly loyal fan even more so.

I bet Mr. Oldman, the master word pretender, would have some incredible stories from his long list of truly fantastic roles.

I won’t pander for your attention again, but while I have your attention… thank you for being such a great role model and bringing so much positive energy into the world. You are the best 🙂

  23. Chris Hardwick says:

@Weebee: I would LOVE to get my shit together for that. He used to live in the same building as my friend in the early 90s. Seemed like a super cool guy.

  24. Nea says:

Great job with the podcast – I think you should have Kinnaman back again soon, because I felt you have alot more to talk about. 🙂

  25. Weebee says:

Chris, I understand that I make stupid comments on here to entertain myself but please be aware that I do so out of a place of love. It would have made my day had you responded to my dumb comment about Gary Oldman but instead you replied to some retarded girl trying to be a legitimate twat monster.

I pray to science that one day I will see a comment from you in response to one of my silly posts without my having to troll you or question you like you aren’t already the undisputed king of interviews/hosting.

  26. Drarry says:

I feel the same way about Gary Oldman. I had to look it up. He’s in his 50s.

  27. motownphilly lives on at the nerdist network

  28. Chris Hardwick says:

@Melissa: I have never spoken at length to someone who was firmly planted in both Swedish and American culture but fuck me for being curious and trying to gain a better cultural understanding, right?

  29. Weebee says:

Speaking of Gary Oldman… maybe get your shit together and interview him! Please 🙂

Love love love you Cunty McCuntwick!

  30. Melissa says:

Why did you treat him like an alien because he’s Swedish? Have you never met someone from outside the US?

  31. Svamp says:

Lies! We all look like Thor

  32. Chris Hardwick says:

@Tara: I believe this gross error only solidifies my point of cluelessness. #MotownPhilly 🙂

  33. kungtotte says:

I’ve actually taken it upon myself to travel to the US regularly and walk around identifying myself as a Swede, to help explain to Americans that we don’t *all* look like Joel Kinnaman or Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd.

I’m even normal person size (5’10”)!

  34. Tara Campbell says:

Chris – your “hip hop” phase included Boyz II Men and BBD? Um no sir. You are no longer allowed to refer to that time in your life as a “hip hop” phase. The best you can do is “R&B” phase. Seriously dude. I love you, but that may have seriously been the WHITEST, NERDIEST thing you’ve ever said.

  35. Nikki says:

Also, Chris can have an after show after the Killing called The Talking

  36. Jesse says:

Cue furry weirdos coming out of the woodwork to be offended by the intro.

  37. Nikki says:

Naked under the suit? Ugh that must have been super uncomfortable
