Science Explains Why Your Cat Keeps Knocking Stuff Over

  1. Bernie says:

at 15:00 Ethan says “Passeh”, what does that mean?

  2. Teresa says:

This feels like it went by too fast. Love this guy. He’s got to be one of my favorite guests on the podcast ever, right up there with Jason Schwartzman (who I wish would start his own show because he really does seem to have a knack for the medium and is really engaging on both his Nerdist episodes)

  3. Want even more evidence that Ethan Hawke is an incredibly interesting fellow? Here’s the trailer for a documentary he made:

  4. Liz says:

I wish there was a transcript of this interview. Both Ethan & Chris – thank you for putting yourself out there day after day, interview after interview and in so many other ways, even though it’s ALWAYS confusing and frustrating and scary (even under ideal circumstances). Good vibes from Toronto!

  5. James B says:

What a pleasure it was listening to this episode, massive thanks to all the crew and to Ethan for just, and it sounds so cliché, but, opening up.

  6. David says:

Gattaca, Training Day, Brooklyn’s Finest, Alive, Dead Poet’s Society, Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead. Some of my favourite films in there. I feel like I grew up with him. It’s good to know someone can be immersed in that world all their adult life and remain so un-fullofshit. Nice work Ethan!Real nice interview. Thank you.

  7. Nikki says:

what Ethan says about not getting caught up on looking inward is very important and this is something I’m only just realizing. When I take myself out of the equation, I’m not so hung up on the self-criticism. For me, it’s volunteering at an animal shelter. If I just focus on that volunteer work, I am distracted from the constant internal self-critical dialogue.

  8. Frankie says:

    I needed to hear this

  9. Paul says:

I’m buying Predestination tonight because of this interview. Ethan Hawke has a new fan (me). Such a smart, thoughtful guy.

  10. Robert says:

Ethan Hawke talking about Tolstoy made me so happy. I’m so glad he’s an awesome dude. Love his movies.

  11. Miguel says:

this conversation was amazing! Thanks so much

  12. jake hansen says:

This was an amazing podcast. Ethan Hawke has some REALLY interesting thoughts. Great interview guys

  13. It struck me recently, and this interview is an example, that every time I see an Ethan Hawke movie or read/hear and interview with him, I come away with a more positive opinion of Ethan Hawke. Sure, like any performer, some of his output is not up to the standards one might wish, but even then, I find myself being moved by his performance. And hell, anyone who can do movies from the ‘Before Sunrise’ films to ‘Purge to ‘Explorers’ to ‘Daybreakers,’ and put 100% into all of that, is flippin’ outstanding. I have been a fan of his for forever.

  14. ericmci says:

Is that a grandfather clock in the background of the intro- what is that knocking sound?

  15. Josh says:

What a great episode!! Love the conversation and movie talk — “Crazy People” was one of my favorite movies as a kid! Probably time for a remake of that movie, there’s an entirely new world of industry out there for comedy! I’ll start: “Facebook. Because we’re all stalkers.”

  16. Quartermeat says:

After this and reading his Reddit AMA today, I think Ethan Hawke is my new favorite actor. Level headed, good dude.

  17. So insightful. Great episode got John Mayer Bill Gates keep killing it boys enjoy your burrito 4life God bless

  18. Wildride says:

  19. Russell says:

Fantastic interview. Chris, man… you gotta stop prefacing your questions with apologies.

You always defend yourself as someone asking questions that are important to you personally, if you mean this, then let the person across from you decide on “corny” or “cliche” or whatever. Don’t give up on your own questions before you even get them out.

Great stuff from both sides of the table, too. Ethan is a well-spoken and interesting dude.

Also I don’t podcast as part of my living so fuck my advice, keep doing your thang ^_~

    • Arabrabbra says:

AGREE! You would think with all of his success he would be a bit more secure. However being someone with insecurities as well, I certainly cant condemn him for it. I just wish we could give him a hug and tell him he is the best lol

  20. guest says:

I’m only 20 min in and just had to stop and say how amazing all this citing of movie lines, quotes, sayings is. I mean did you guys rehearse this before hand? I’m so envious and just stunned at how easily you guys bring these random yet meaningful lines up as if this is how normal people talk.
Now if there is a Confucius line in here somewhere, that will just blow my mind

  21. Malcolm says:

This is one of the most moving episodes of the podcast that you’ve done. Thanks for bringing this to us, Chris.
