Nerdist Podcast: Bryan Cranston (TWCH)

Bryan Cranston is the one who knocks, and he’s back on AMC for the latest episode of Talking with Chris Hardwick! If Chris Hardwick wanted to list everything that Cranston has appeared in, we’d be here for days! But here’s a taste: Saving Private Ryan, Little Miss Sunshine, Drive, Argo, and Godzilla, as well as Emmy winning runs on Malcolm in the Middle and Breaking Bad!

This is the special extended edition of Cranston’s appearance on Chris’ show, and he doesn’t hold back. Cranston even speaks about his family struggles when he was a child and explains that it was originally his intent to become a police officer. Cranston also shares the experience where he first felt the power of acting and how it changed the course of his life.

It hasn’t been an easy road, as Cranston tells us about going through the lean years and dealing with survival jobs, before landing his first speaking role in the TV movie, (To Race the Wind, opposite Steve Guttenberg), as well as his journey as an actor, and the proudest achievement in his life. Cranston also speaks about his stint as Tim Whatley on Seinfeld, and the way he made Jerry Seinfeld laugh uncontrollably thanks to an unexpected tip.

Of course, Breaking Bad was a major topic of the conversation, as he recalled his most harrowing moment of the show and the rare instances in which he clashed with the show’s creative team over the direction of Walter White’s character. He also shared his opinion of Better Call Saul before diving into All the Way, the film in which he portrayed former President Lyndon B. Johnson. It turns out that Cranston is very passionate about Johnson’s life, and he used that in his performance.

Make sure to watch Talking with Chris Hardwick Sunday nights at 11pm on AMC or on amc.com/talking! The extended audio will premiere as a podcast here every Friday after a new episode makes its AMC debut.
