Nerdist Podcast #61: COLIN HANKS

Colin Hanks’ spoon is too big. Also, he wants to (and should) make a documentary about Tower Records. ADDITIONALLY, Colin, Chris, Jonah and Matt turn a critical eye toward “Howard the Duck”, and then re-live their youth by forming a theoretical Voltron boner for Lea Thompson.

Who Is the Secret Cameo in DEADPOOL 2?

  1. Rose Tyler says:

Considering how they are comparing rain to actual urine, this reminds me of when I saw this interview with Justin Long, and I don’t know who he was telling this story to, but he talked about how he was in London, and he wasn’t allowed to discuss Drag Me To Hell, and he could only talk about Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeekuel on this family-friendly radio program. Anyway, a man was standing over Justin as he was being interviewed for Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeekuel, and this man just started peeing on Justin’s head, and as he started to talk about the Chippettes being in this film he pointed it out freaked out about it, and just screamed about a man pissing all over him. I don’t think he was invited back after that fiasco.

  2. Kelly says:

This was a great interview! Since, it’s the nerdist, I had hoped you might chat about the ridiculousness that is Roswell (yay aliens). However, if nothing else, I’m happy I know kickstarter exists. Time to fund some art.

  3. mariel says:

Going back through the archives, I’d like to let you know that girls (like me!) do listen!

The talk about the Transformers movie made my day. I used to be the one showing that movie to people and getting blank stares. Freaking awesome guys.

  4. i realized after listening to this show how much i loved lea thompson in the 80’s!!! i’ve seen every single one of her movies. i even enjoyed “howard the duck” and her crimped hair.

  5. Alexandra says:

Adrian, not all of us want to take the easy way out… Same reason my parents didn’t buy all of my Girl Scout cookies so that I could get the killer Girl Scouts coffee mug or tote bag, and wouldn’t let me use my allowance to buy all the cookies myself.

  6. Adrian says:

    Great cast but…

WTF Colin Hanks needs to crowd-source something? Um…what is wrong with this picture? Something is rotten in the state of H’wood.

Is he really that totally broke or is this an H’wood scheme to get normal peeps to fund a celeb’s passion project? Weird…I would donate, but I don’t see why I’d have to if Colin Hanks is directing, just pay for the thing yourself Colin!

  7. Adam Borg says:

I posted something similar on twitter, but it probably sounded a bit whiney/complainey/douchey/some-other-ey.

What I wanted to say was that I really enjoy the Nerdist podcast and was just a bit surprised by what seemed likely vitriol against the non-famous…I was curious if my humor sensor was faulty (perhaps exposed to water?) for a micro-tick or if there might have been some other pent up anger fueled story or creature waiting to get out. I honestly couldn’t tell and was perplexed.

If reliving this moment or story is actually embarrassing and you’re not up to telling the whole world, that’s cool too…just look here and all memory of these last two paragraphs will be erased.

Either way…like a vaguely wayward time-traveler I am making my way towards the present. I’m a few episodes past CH now and soon I will find out what ever happened to Matt Mira; will he become free from his iconic fruit overlords? will he be recognized in whole foods…again? will he get paid? I for one am excited to find out what happens on the Nerdist podcast featuring Matt Mira.

Happily rooting for Matt, Jonah and of course CH!

  8. Robin says:

As a lady who listens to the podcast, I enjoyed the discussions of both Lea Thompson and the Transformers animated movie.

Colin’s voice reminds me a lot of Willie Garson’s. [/random]

  9. Natalie says:

Was perusing the archives and noticed this podcast, really enjoyed it. So sad Good Guys is done, I really enjoyed that show. Quick question, where you guys throwing a few back during the show? Colin appears to be drunk towards the end of the podcast. Still highly entertaining and great to hear what he’s up to now. Thanks!

  10. Lindsey Dailey says:

Awesome cast! Yours actually takes priority over Radiolab and This American Life on my listening list.

Whatever happened to the the charity donation winner? The one who was supposed to have an entire episode dedicated to them? Did I miss it?

  11. Chriss says:

I think Colin should definitely make that Tower documentary. Ex-Tower employees might be willing to donate to make it happen. Post on the Facebook Tower page (there are a bunch of them, but pick one of the more popular ones and you should get good response).
If/when I hear about a way to donate, I’ll be sure to pass the info on to my ex-Tower cohorts.
