Nerdist Podcast #20: Alison Brie

Alison Brie stars in Mad Men and Community. She is hilarious, and if there were a drug for delightfulness, certainly it would be synthesized from her DNA. She also prefers shorts to jeans. Also, Chris lost his virginity to a Belinda Carlisle song, Jonah got locked in his building due a faulty garage gate, and in addition to the Dave Matthews Band, Matt also loves Regina Spektor. I think he wants to be their baby.

13 Easter Eggs and Secrets You Missed in DEADPOOL 2

13 Easter Eggs and Secrets You Missed in DEADPOOL 2

  1. Stephen Dias says:

“That’s all we do in this business; we’re just professional liars.” That’s what my college roommate used to say about us (we majored in English Lit).

  2. Levi says:

I’m working my way through the backlog of episodes, and just listened to this one. Really cool to hear Alison talk about Donald Glover’s rap career, before he absolutely blew the fuck up. I just love hearing “throw-away” conversations about stuff like this.

  3. Ash says:

I just discovered the podcast and listened to this episode.
Although I watch Mad Men and always liked Trudy Campbell, I did not know who Alison Brie was when I started listening. Holy crap.

What a great interview. Funny, smart, talented, engaging AND smoking hot? Alison, please let me know some of your flaws so I don’t start another unrequited crush. I don’t need that!

  4. Stephan` says:

I feel the need to point out that this wasn’t really “19 episodes of dudes”

Unless Miss Piggy is a dude?

  5. Sam says:

  6. Sam says:

Which Mortified book did they put her story in?

  7. dave says:

alison brie saying “dave is great! i love dave” is now my ringtone.

  8. mjb says:

Great Podcast. The artist Chris was talking about is Jim Noir.

  9. Cole says:

I tride to downloed this one and it cut off 25 minutes in. I’m just woundering if you are going to fix that.

  10. Tom says:

I love the Nerdist podcast, and this one was one of the best. How is such a beautiful woman so funny and dirty, too? Great episode. Keep up the good work.

I even enjoyed your show Shipmates.

  11. Hunter Boone says:

What was the band you were talking about at the end of the podcast?

    Jim Gwar?

  12. smartbunny says:

Also, you were talking about arcade machine casings with a computer inside so you could play any game you wanted at any time. My boyfriend built one of those. It’s huge! And man, joysticks are so much cooler than pad thingys.

  13. The Deej says:

we should start an Allison Brie for Wonder Woman campaign.

  14. Bill D. says:

Man, Alison Brie is charming. Definitely (a) delight. Delight on toast even. And that is a good thing, because toast makes everything better.

And you’re totally right about Toronto hot dogs! The best ballgame dog I’ve ever eaten wasn’t at Fenway or Wrigley, it was at Skydome. Everything a hot dog should be, served up on a poppyseed bun no less. I knew they were years ahead of us in bacon technology, but their commanding lead in hot dogs came as a shock. Canadians sure know their way around a hog.

  15. Jordan says:

Awesome episode! Nerdist is not massage-nistic…hrmm…..

  16. smartbunny says:

My favorite TV edit is in Peggy Sue Got Married. There’s a scene with Kathleen Turner and Nic Cage parked by a wharf, and she is trying to get him horny. The line is, “Doesn’t Lucky Chucky wanna come out? You know, your Love Machine? Your throbbing thrillhammer? Your thing?” and Cage says, “You mean my… WHANG?” In the TV version there is a FOGHORN over ALL of this dialogue. I shit you not. Every time they speak in this scene it’s like, “Ah-WHOOOOOO-GUH!” For seriously reals.

Ah, glad to hear Chris likes Buffy as well. King Ralph reference!

  17. Patti says:

OMG, Joel, that is hysterical! I wish I could remember some of the lame edits I heard while watching a movie recently. They were so bad. I can’t even remember the movie. Sad. Damn memory loss…but I’d love to see more posts from folks about this.

  18. Joel says:

    best tv edit
“im sick of these monkey fighting snakes on this monday to friday plane”

  19. Jon says:

    This was fucking awesome.

  20. Alison says:

Chris, I’m not surprised that Felicia’s been requested before. Hope you’re able to get her on! While on the topic of female guests, might I also suggest Mindy Kaling? Or Aubrey Plaza?

Glad to hear that Rich Sommer will be on soon. Seeing Harry Crane in a Mad Men ep always makes me smile.

And I also vote in favor of Donald Glover and Danny Pudi as potential guests.

Also, are you familiar with John and Hank Green? They run the Youtube channel the vlogbrothers. Hank was a guest at W00tstock in Seattle; their last couple of videos have taken on the Viacom lawsuit against Youtube…in a pretty funny and cogent manner. They’re organizing Vidcon and will be in LA in July…other potential guests, perhaps?

Here’s John explaining why Viacom owes Jonathan Coulton $37:

  21. Mike says:

I think the movie that Alison was talking about that is being dinged as racist because they have cast white actors in roles that were (in the original source material) Asian is “The Last Airbender” (M. Night Shamadamadingdong’s new movie).

Not saying I agree or whatever, just FYI that she wasn’t thinking of a movie from the 60’s.

  22. Nicole says:

Loved Alison Brie! She was delightful, and it was refreshing to hear a woman on the show for a change. I’d also like to agree that Donald Glover (and Danny Pudi!) need to be on in the future. I’m going to have to check out John Noir’s music – sounds intriguing.

I had to comment on this because my supportive DMB comment to Matt on the Weird Al podcast was called out by Jonah! Yay! I was driving in my car, laughing along with the show, and suddenly Jonah mentions that “people” were “commenting” on the lack of DMB in 2011 and supporting Matt in his disappointment. Ha! I was so honoured that I don’t even care that it was said in that derisive tone reserved specifically for hipsters speaking about DMB fans! (I can’t really hold that against Jonah, because I really only admit I like DMB when I’m at a DMB show, and I don’t listen to them at all anymore outside of the concerts – I hate listening to music in my car that I feel the need to turn off at traffic lights). Anyway Matt, the Toronto show was great – lots of Dave dancing, and obviously, really long instrumental breaks that start out fun and then end in me going to get more beer.

  23. Shobhna says:

This was hilarious! She’s awesome, on both shows, and just in general! 😀

  24. Heather says:

I’ve watched every episode of “Community” (and some of “Mad Men”) and my husband has watched every episode of “Mad Men” (and some of “Community”) and we never figured out that “Annie” and “Pete’s wife” are the same actress. I guess that’s just talent. And styling.

  25. Gillian says:

    Another Comedy/Drama/Internet jpg:

  26. anthony says:

brie sounds like a real fun person to talk to. good podcast, wish she was more of a nerd, but it was entertaining nonetheless

  27. Ahhh, fantastic! These nifty podcasts make my day a lot less soul sucking. That MIGHT be because I stand there with my headphones in, laughing to myself, and my co-workers have started to keep their distance. Win-win either way!

  28. Amerah says:

As someone from Vegas, tourists there are so annoying.

  29. chris layton says:

are you kidding? this episode sucks ass. sorry. it you took the picture down nobody would listen. ugg. keep up the GOOD ones!

  30. my_leisure says:

Man, I didn’t realize how young Johnah and Matt are.

  31. Jim says:

best edited for TV line, Die Hard: “Yippie Ki Yay, Mellon Farmer” (now that I think about it, it mighta been Die Hard 2, anyway, still awesomely bad tv edit, lol)

  32. Mark Schmidt says:

  33. Doug B says:

Loved this episode. Alison Brie is one of my favs even with the creepy sex story….

Chris who was that guy singer you mentioned you found recently that does 60ish sounding pop music I didn’t catch his last name

  34. Chris Hardwick says:

Agreed! Alison is a terrific human!

    xx: that jpg is fantastic.

Cassi: Ha! It was a time issue. I posted the show while waiting for a plane and this pic was the first one to come up on image search that wasn’t a red carpet photo.

Alison: The Felicia Day request was made last month but she was out of town working. I don’t like to bug people too much but I will hit her up again soon.

  35. kylen says:

My favorite edit is from Scarface:

“How’d you get that scar, eating pineapple?”

  36. CassiCost says:

Glad to see a woman finally made it on the nerdcast! Hope to find that the reason behind using a softcore-esque picture of her is explained in the podcast and isn’t actually kiiiiiinda sexist!

  37. Alison says:

Loved having Alison Brie in this episode! She’s definitely my favorite guest so far…and not just because we spell our name the same way 🙂 Would love to see more smart and funny women on the show. Felicia Day perhaps?

  38. Mary says:

    Aw Alison is so adorable!

  39. . says:

brie could be the next bullock but why did she have to admit liking dmb? that might be a deal breaker.

  40. xx says:

    Drama, Comedy, Internet:

  41. Dave says:

FYI the Jack Lemmon presidential comedy was “My Fellow Americans.”. It’s pretty damn funny.

  42. Danielle H says:

Bull flippin spit that was a good episode!!

  43. Donald and Alison got their Tweeple (Tweople?) to get #donaldforspiderman to trend for a brief moment the other day.

  44. Jack-Henry says:

Another great podcast, first female guest could not have been better. and I’m all for the the black spider man!
