Neal McDonough Cast as Damien Darhk in ARROW Season 4

The DC and CW show Arrow is coming back for a fourth season, and will be welcoming a new villain into the fold as well. Today at San Diego Comic-Con, the show announced that actor Neal McDonough, who some will remember as having played Dum Dum Duggan in Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger and on Agent Carter, will be heading to Starling City for season 4. McDonough has been announced to be taking on the role of DC Comics character Damien Darhk, who will become quite a challenge for Ollie and Team Arrow.

DC Comics Character Art-Damien Darhk

The press release from DC and Warner refers to Darhk as being “an adversary of the late Ra’s Al Ghul…. now the leader of his own clandestine group.” While DC’s cinematic and television universes have never felt beholden to their comic book sources, Darhk seems to be undergoing a noticeable change from his comic book counterpart. In the comics, Damien Darhk was an adversary to the Teen Titans with high-level connections to just about every form of underground crime group there was. He possessed a genius-level intelligence as well access to the highest quality technology, some of which was far more advanced than anything the public had ever seen. One of his most striking qualities, however, was the fact that he seemed to be SO advanced and so connected as a baby-faced 20-something.

It is probably best to assume that with an old enemy of Ra’s Al Ghul showing up, who may be older than anyone realizes, that the Lazarus Pit, or at least the Lazarus technology, will probably be a big part of season 4’s premise. Only time will tell, though.
