NASA Video Declares Missions to the Moon and Mars

This year marks the sixtieth anniversary of the inception of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration—you know it best as NASA. The organization has overseen some of the greatest achievements that humankind has ever accomplished, including (but not limited to) landing actual humans on the moon. I know it’s been awhile, but that one’s still pretty impressive, you guys.

However, the last several years have been relatively quite in terms of space travel. But that’s about to change. NASA has put out a special video titled “We Are NASA” (via Laughing Squid), and alongside commemoration of their 60-year history, they snuck in a little announcement regarding “our permanent return to the moon…and beyond.”

Although most of the video is devoted to waxing nostalgic over NASA’s greatest accomplishments, one portion sees narrator Mike Rowe saying, “Now we’re building the next chapter, returning to the Moon to stay, and preparing to go beyond. We are NASA, and after 60 years, we’re just getting started.” This second part is accompanied by images of Mars, so that right there tells you everything. All I know is that according to everything they told me when I was a kid in school, we were supposed to have a Moon base and a Mars base in the year 2000! And don’t get me started on the flying Jetsons-like cars. In short, we are long overdue.

What do you think of a permanent Moon base? Be sure to share your thoughts with us down below in the comments.
