Welcome back to another edition of Nerdist’s Music Dispatch. After a solid long weekend, which we know you soundtracked with our Labor Day playlist, the music world is bursting at the seams with news from a ton of our favorite artists. Below you will find a hefty roundup of videos, songs, album streams, news and even impressions. Onward, nerds!


Karen O released a new song, “Day Go By” from her debut solo album, Crush Songs, which drops on September 9. Check out the lyrics to her heartrending new song via Urban Outfitters and get ready to cry, suckers!

Courtney Barnett stopped by the AV Club to cover The Breeders’ “Cannonball”. She said that during the first day of recording her new album that she blasted the Breeders in the studio, so presumably this performance is indicative the kind of material Barnett and her band recorded #yussssss


Mac Demarco covered Angel Olsen‘s “Lights Out” from her excellent album Burn Your Fire For No Witness. The performance was for the A Pint Of Cacophony podcast [via Pitchfork]

Blake Mills is a country musician who has collaborated with the likes of Jenny Lewis, Jeff Bridges (!), and Julian Casablancas. After releasing his first solo album in 2010, he is preparing to release his follow up, Heigh Ho on September 16. His excellent first single, “Don’t Tell Our Friends About Me” was recorded with his girlfriend, Fiona Apple. He recently stopped by Rolling Stone to explain his favorite methods of playing guitar:

Diarrhea Planet shared a The Adventures Of Pete And Pete-themed music video for their song, “Platinum Girls” [via A.V. Club].

Adam Levine, as it turns out, is really really good at doing impressions of musicians. Check him out on the Tonight Show. [via NYLON].

Steve Gunn is another excellent country guitarist whose roadtrip-worhty new album, Way Out Weather, comes out October 7. Check out the video for his album’s wanderlust-inducing title track, “Way Out Weather”.

My Brightest Diamond, a/k/a Shara Worden shared a video for “Pressure” from her upcoming LP, This Is My Hand, out September 16 via Asthmatic Kitty


Album Streams:

Death From Above 1979 is streaming their highly anticipated follow up to 2004’s You’re A Woman, I’m A Machine over at iTunes. Be warned, its sludgy and awesome.

Robert Plant, Tricky, Justin Townes Earle, and Ryan Adams are all streaming new albums over at NPR First Listen.

Tennis and Avi Buffalo are streaming new albums right now via Pitchfork Advance.

Jens Lekman made a mixtape when he was traveling through the midwest and it includes some unreleased gems



Prince released two new songs, one for each of his albums that will be coming out on the same day this fall. Listen to “U Know” and “Whitecaps” via The Guardian.

Flying Lotus shared “Never Catch Me” his new song with Kendrick Lamar. It makes us want to tornado around the room and tap on every surface.

Jessie Ware and Dev Hynes teamed up for “Want Your Feeling”, a beautifully understated R&B track from her forthcoming album, Tough Love, which is out October 6.

TV On The Radio have released a new song, “Happy Idiot” and it is the track that describes me most in 2014 [via Rolling Stone]

The most recent Adult Swim Single was footwork leaning dance track, “RP Technic” form the legendary DJ RP Boo.
