Music Dispatch: John Belushi’s Widow, Dan Aykroyd Launch Record Label

If you happen to be an aspiring Delta blues man (or woman), Joliet Jake and Elwood want to help a fellow Blues Brother (or Sister) out. What started as a SNL sketch by comedians Dan Aykroyd and the late John Belushi, before developed into a touring act, film franchise, concert venue chain, and radio show, is now adding record label to its list of second lives. Aykroyd and Belushi’s widow, Judy, have launched Blues Brothers Records, with the objective of nurturing and promoting emerging jazz talent. The label will be distributed by Capitol Music Group’s historic Blue Note Records. The label has begun accepting audio and video link submissions at: [email protected]. Their upcoming releases will be the perfect pairing with your evening cap of Aykroyd’s Crystal Head Vodka.

In other music news, we have new music from Elvis Perkins, a freestyle from iLoveMakonnen, and a fight on the Run the Jewels stage at SXSW. So keep reading!

You know that Catch the Throne 2 mixtape we can’t shut up about? The one that features everyone from Method Man to Mastodon sampling music from HBO’s obscure, little Game of Thrones program? It is now available for free streaming and download via SoundCloud and iTunes, just in time for the season five premiere. It is almost as though they planned it that way…

Killer Mike is not to be taken lightly. That’s what one disgruntled audience member learned the hard way, after rushing the stage at SXSW to take a swing at his Run the Jewels counterpart, El-P, only to be intercepted by the hulking MC, and tackled off stage by security. For a collection of Instagram videos of the altercation, head over to SPINThen come back!

Death Grips have released the title track to their The Powers That B double album, which comes in as track six on part two, Jenny Death. Jenny Death is scheduled to come out on March 31st, but who ever knows for sure with Death Grips? [Stereogum]

Elvis Perkins and Alec Ounsworth (of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah) teamed up on the charmingly rickety, saloon-ready cover of Ounsworth’s “Mexican Ritual”. The track comes as part of Yellow Bird Project’s covers compilations, with proceeds benefiting an array of charity programs. [Stereogum]

iLoveMakonnen brings more of his lethargic, mesmerizingly off-kilter grooves with “Drink More Water 5 Freestyle”, which will be the opening track to his upcoming Drink More Water 5 mixtape. [Pitchfork]

Od Future Rapper, Earl Sweatshirt, has released a haunting, film-negative video for “Grief”, to announce the sudden drop of his new album, I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside. That album comes out next week, March 23rd. [Pitchfork]

Promoting the release of his celebrated, new album, GoonTobias Jesso, Jr. visited Conan with a full string section and Danielle Haim on drums, performing “Without You”. The result was aural euphoria. Head over to Conan to enjoy, and we will see you tomorrow with more Music Dispatch! [Spin]
