Movie Morsels: INDIANA JONES 5 Confirmed by Lucasfilm, SPIDER-MAN Directors Short List, and More

It’s another day of big news here at Movie Morsels, with yet more Lucasfilm goodness to emerge from the June issue of Vanity Fair, including official confirmation on a fifth Indiana Jones film and the latest photo from The Force Awakens! Plus, we’ve got the five names that Marvel is supposedly considering to direct its Spider-Man film, as well as new casting info on the Magnificent Seven remake and more!

Spider-Man

Spider-Man 1

The list of potential directors for Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man co-production has reportedly been narrowed to a mere five (well, six, since two are co-directors): Warm Bodies‘ Jonathan Levine, St. Vincent‘s Ted Melfi, Pitch Perfect‘s Jason Moore, the new Vacation‘s John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein, and Napoleon Dynamite‘s Jared Hess. If it sounds like there are a lot of comedy helmers being considered, that’s because the “the tone they are searching for in the coming of age tale is John Hughes humor and emotion.”

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

As part of its cover story devoted to the seventh Star Wars film, Vanity Fair has revealed yet another behind-the-scenes photo from The Force Awakens, this one featuring a new look at Lupita Nyong’o in her performance-capture performance as space pirate Maz Kanata. J.J. Abrams’ very anxiously awaited sequel — co-starring Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Anderson, Christina Chong and Miltos Yerolemou — will be here on December 18th, when it will hopefully save our childhoods from the fires of hell.

Indiana Jones

Indiana Jones

Also in the latest Vanity Fair (the magazine’s June issue), Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy officially confirms that the studio will produce a fifth Indiana Jones film, though no script, star, or director are in place yet. Another Indy film, says Kennedy, “will one day be made inside this company. When it will happen, I’m not quite sure. We haven’t started working on a script yet, but we are talking about it.” Of course, this leaves the door open as to whether or not the film will be a sequel or a reboot. Steven Spielberg has reportedly expressed interest in the latter, though the rumors concerning Chris Pratt’s casting in the lead were refuted by the star.

The Magnificent Seven

Jason Momoa

From merman to cowboy… Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice‘s Aquaman, actor Jason Momoa, is in talks to join the cast of The Magnificent Seven remake (which in turn was a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai). Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film already stars Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Wagner Moura, and Haley Bennett. Momoa would play one of its villains.
