Movie Morsels: GHOSTBUSTERS Cast Reunites!, BIRDMAN RETURNS Gets a Trailer, Nicole Kidman Menaces PADDINGTON, and More!

For us children of the ’80s, any reunion of the surviving cast of Ghostbusters is almost as welcome as a Beatles reunion would have been to my parents’ generation. Even though it appears we won’t be getting that in the upcoming reboot film, we do get a teasing glimpse of what could have been in today’s Movie Morsels. Along with new trailers and clips for 50 Shades of Grey, Horrible Bosses 2, and Paddington, as well as a brilliant faux trailer from the folks behind Birdman for Birdman Returns! Gorge on the goodness that follows.

Ghostbusters

If the idea of director Paul Feig rebooting Ghostbusters leaves you kind of cold, then wrap yourself in the warm, snuggly blanket of nostalgia offered by this week’s Entertainment Weekly cover. Yes, in what must surely be the most nerd-friendly reunion since The Force Awakens, Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson are all smiles as they at long last reunite. And they’re joined inside by Annie Potts and director Ivan Reitman!

Birdman

As the Michael Keaton-starring Birdman expands the number of screens on which its playing this weekend, the geniuses at Fox Searchlight have come up with an innovative new way to promote the film — by creating a fake trailer for Birdman Returns, a 1992 sequel in which Keaton’s character Riggan Thomson starred. Because I’m never satisfied, I now want a trailer for Birdman Forever featuring Val Kilmer.

Here’s how the studio describes the trailer: “in 1992, Riggan Thomson makes box office history in BIRDMAN RETURNS. It will be another 4 years before Riggan famously pulls out of BIRDMAN 4 and disappears off the face of the planet until reviving his career on Broadway!”

50 Shades of Grey

The next trailer for Focus Features’ 50 Shades of Grey will debut during ABC’s Scandal on November 13 at 9:00pm ET/PT, but a glimpse of it has just been released online. “Opening in theaters on February 13, 2015, the Sam Taylor-Johnson-directed adaptation stars Jamie Dornan, Dakota Johnson, Jennifer Ehle, Luke Grimes, Victor Rasuk, Eloise Mumford, Max Martini, Rita Ora, Marcia Gay Harden and Callum Keith Rennie. Fifty Shades of Grey (first published in 2011) follows the relationship of 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey and college student Anastasia Steele.” The film hits theaters on February 14, 2015.

Horrible Bosses 2

The sequel to the surprise comedy hit Horrible Bosses hits theaters on November 26th, but you can preview Horrible Bosses 2 now in two new clips. The first of which features Jason Bateman accidentally crashing a group therapy session with Jennifer Aniston, reprising her role as a sex addict from the first film. The second clip see Kevin Spacey’s evil boss, now incarcerated, mocking Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, and Charlie Day as only Kevin Spacey can.

Paddington

Cruella de Vil, eat your heart out! Nicole Kidman is at her most evil since To Die For in the latest trailer for Paddington, based on the beloved children’s books and due in theaters on November 15th. The film, directed by Paul King, co-stars stars Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Jim Broadbent, Julie Walters, Michael Gambon, and Imelda Staunton.

Animal Crackers

Animal Crackers

And in other animated critter news… Ian McKellen, Danny DeVito, and Sylvester Stallone (three names one doesn’t often get to type in the same sentence) are lending their voices to Animal Crackers, an animated film from Scott Christian Sava’s Blue Dream Studios, joining a cast that includes Patrick Warburton, Gilbert Gottfried, Raven Symone, Harvey Fierstein, James Arnold Taylor, Tara Strong and Lydia Taylor.

“The film is about a family whose life is turned upside-down when they inherit a rundown circus and a mysterious box of animal crackers, which magically change the person who eats them into animals. Sava is co-directing with Tony Bancroft (Mulan) from a script he co-wrote with Dean Lorey. Production has launched on the film, set to be completed in the summer of 2016.”

As much as I’d like to see McKellen and DeVito join Stallone on an Expendables film, I guess I’ll just have to settle.
