Movie Morsels: First Full Look at JURASSIC WORLD’s Indominus Rex, DEADPOOL and SUICIDE SQUAD Casting Updates

Even if you didn’t have a romantic Valentine’s Day weekend, we’re pretty sure you’ll fall in love with something in today’s Movie Morsels, like the best look we’ve had yet at Jurassic World‘s Indominus Rex; news of a couple of kick-ass ladies cast in the Deadpool and Assassin’s Creed films, and the actor now likely to play Rick Flagg in Suicide Squad; or as a cool new look at Pixar’s Inside Out. Think of all this as our Presidents Day present to you, dear readers!

Jurassic World

At this weekend’s Toy Fair in New York, Hasbro unveiled its line of Jurassic World toys, the most welcome of which was the film’s much discussed new dinosaur breed, the Indominus Rex…

While we had glimpses of the beast in the film’s Super Bowl trailer, this marks the full-figured dino’s debut. At over fifty feet tall and capable of running over thirty miles an hour — with arms longer than those of the T-Rex — the Indominus Rex is sure to be the new theme park’s star attraction. According to Entertainment Weekly, the battery-operated toy, “roars, chomps, and has color-morphing skin on its back,” and, like the rest of Hasbro’s Jurassic World toys, will be available in May, shortly before the film’s June 12th debut.

Deadpool

It looks like Marvel’s “Merc with a Mouth” may have finally met his match — Deadpool‘s Ryan Reynolds has himself a co-star in the form of mixed martial artist champion and Fast & Furious actress Gina Carano. The Tim Miller-directed film has cast Carano as Angel Dust, one of the members of the underground mutant gang the Morlocks. Carano’s next film is the Bruce Willis thriller Extraction. Deadpool debuts on February 12, 2016.

Suicide Squad

Joel Kinnaman

Not to take anything away from Deadpool, but the DC universe has a whole platoon of mercenaries just waiting to make their debut in Warner Brothers’ Suicide Squad. While most of the core cast is set in place — including Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Jared Leto as Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and the Joker — the role of Rick Flagg has remained a pesky one, with both Tom Hardy and Jake Gyllenhaal dropping out of it. Now director David Ayer is eying The Killing and Robocop remake star Joel Kinnaman (pictured above). Whoever is cast, the film will shoot from April to September with an August 5, 2016 release date.

Inside Out

Disney has just released a new TV spot introducing audiences to the emotions inside eleven-year-old Riley, the protagonist in Pixar’s Inside Out — Joy (voiced by Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling), and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). Directed by Oscar winner Pete Docter, Inside Out promises to take animation lovers to a world they’ve never seen before when it debuts on June 19th.

Assassin’s Creed

Marion Cotillard

Not necessarily the first name one thinks of when it comes to video-game-to-film adaptations, Academy Award-winning actress Marion Cotillard is nonetheless boarding the Assassin’s Creed film, based on the blockbuster Ubisoft game, in an as-yet-unspecified role. She’ll join the already cast Michael Fassbender, with whom she’ll also star in the upcoming Weinstein Company adaptation of Shakespeare’s MacBeth. Production on the Justin Kurzel-directed New Regency film will start this fall, and Assassin’s Creed will bow on December 21, 2016. But wait, there’s more! — according to Deadline, Regency and Ubisoft are also rushing a Splinter Cell film into production, directed by Edge of Tomorrow helmer Doug Liman and starring Tom Hardy.
