More Nerdist On BBC America! Network Orders Full Season, World Rejoices

When they send out a press release, that’s official enough, right? So it is with great pride that we can finally reveal that BBC America has ordered a full season of The Nerdist, with ten new hour-long episodes coming in Spring 2013 and airing in the network’s “Supernatural Saturday” block along with shows like Doctor Who, Being Human, and the new Orphan Black. Chris Hardwick will be the host of the whole block as well.

Oh, yes, this is good news. Chris, Matt and Jonah will be back, of course, and the release has the words “brand-new set,” which is cool. We of the Nerdist variety are quite excited about this, but you could have guessed that.

In this press release, BBC America GM Perry Simon — no, it’s not me; yes, he has the same name; and no, we’re not, to the best of my knowledge, even related — says, “We could not be more pleased to be expanding our relationship with Chris by ordering The Nerdist series with an exciting new format, as well as having Chris host our Supernatural Saturday block. Ever since early 2011, Chris has brought his loyal legion of fans to BBC America through his successful Nerdist specials and, as America’s #1 Doctor Who fan, hosting countless Doctor Who-related events for our channel.”

Chris’ press release quote says, “As a huge fanboy of nerd culture stuff, we at the Nerdist Podcast gush about the things we love constantly, and the fact that BBCA lets us do that AS OUR JOBS puts me forever in their debt. They have been exceptional at allowing us to grow the show and its audience. Plus, I’ve met THREE Doctors since I started working there. Perry Simon doesn’t know this yet, but I’m going to hug him REALLY HARD next time I see him — until it gets awkward. Six extra seconds oughta do it.” I hope he remembers which Perry Simon is which.

Anyway, we can put the issue of the Two Perry Simons aside for a moment and congratulate Chris and BBC America on the new deal, and get ready for more of The Nerdist on TV in the Spring. As always, I suggest you camp out in front of your TV set right now.

To everyone asking how they can do this, keep Nerdist running and possibly do a show on Comedy Central: I have no knowledge of the Comedy Central situation, but I would imagine that if the pilot is picked up, it would have a similar order to the BBCA order and likely be scheduled so that the shows would not over lap. Add Matt and Jonah being available to help write and produce and is seems doable.

  10. Warren says:

That’s awesome! This and Doctor Who are the reason I keep my BBC America subscription, and I was considering scrapping it if there wasn’t going to be any new Nerdist once Dr. Who was over.

Acually Vox, I believe we got some cool podcasts due to the Nerdist shows. The full David Tennant interview was really great and was a podcast, and didn’t we get another UK guest because Chris was in the UK for the Nerdist special?

  32. Vincent S says:

Promptly crapping my pants now. Really excited for more Nerdist TV to show up… even though I can’t get them in Australia. Can I just buy it off a shady merchant somewhere? The agony…

  35. Vox Populi says:

AW HELL TO THE YEAH! Nerdist industries is really booming. And what a great lineup to be a part of.

One question, though: is this gonna mean less guests on the podcast? Like, since you already talked to them on the show, you pass on the podcast?

  36. Jeff says:

The “brand-new set” is actually just the old TARDIS set.
