@midnight Recap: Wil Wheaton, Alice Wetterlund, Drew Carey and More!

The internet has not let us down in these last days of 2014. Santa Con hit New York City. There were very serious, very real headlines. And @midnight has all the commentary you could possibly need in this, the last week of new episodes for the year.

Monday night brought Spike Feresten, Jessimae Peluso, and Donnell Rawlings to the stage, where they came up with some epic #XMasAMovie answers. YouTube gave us some seriously modified video games and we’re not sure we’ll ever get over seeing Woody go completely bananas in Grand Theft Auto. But we can’t just summarize all the great stocking stuffers Hardwick presented us with in this episode. You’ll have to watch them yourself:

Chris brought pals Wil Wheaton, Brooke Van Poppelen and Kevin Pereira to the stage on Tuesday night. Children cried, there were jokes about bedazzled genitalia, and many, many Star Trek jokes. Don’t remind Wil about that video that was trending that one time! Chris managed to tie The Walking Dead together with Shipmates. It was pretty impressive. And because, you know, Nerdist kind of embraces his nerdiness, they came up with some stellar #scifibands.

The Wednesday night episode started a bit controversially, with slams to The Hobbit AND Star Wars. We were shocked. Alice Wetterlund, Mike Lawrence and Matt Braunger brought the funny with #NaughtyListBecause since it’s exactly a week from Christmas, and Santa really needed to know exactly who should get the most coal in their stocking. Also, everyone agreed that Nancy Grace likes sensationalism.

Drew Carey, Margaret Cho and Blaine Capatch were Chris’s guests on the last new episode of the year. Our fearless leader congratulated fellow Comedy Central star Stephen Colbert on the finale of his show, and everyone understandably teared up a bit. In a fitting tribute to the end of the year, the hashtag war for the night was #2014in5Words, and the guests managed to hit pretty much every important news story of the year. We learned some really weird things from YouTube, and then Christmas took a dark turn.

Don’t forget to follow @midnight on Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and Facebook so you know all the important things! An important thing you don’t want to miss in the New Year: for two weeks starting January 5th, the show will air at 11:30pm instead of 12am. Don’t miss the new episodes!
