Michael B. Jordan Has a New Superhero Series Heading to Netflix

Michael B. Jordan has had a few significant brushes with superheroes in his career. He kicked things off with a darker take on the genre in Chronicle, then tried his hand at comic book material with the Fantastic Four reboot, and will next costar in the upcoming Black Panther film. As if that weren’t enough, Jordan is set to star in and executive produce his next superhero project, a Netflix original series titled Raising Dion. But this isn’t the kind of superhero story that we’ve seen before.

Via Deadline, Netflix has ordered a 10-episode first season of Raising Dion, which is based on the short film of the same name by Dennis Liu. The story follows a young single mother named Nicole Reese and her seven-year-old son, Dion, who manifests superhuman abilities seemingly at random. Jordan will play Mark, Nicole’s late husband. You can see the original Raising Dion short below to get an idea of what to expect from the series.

Some of the powers that Dion displays includes invisibility, telekinesis, and the ability to create plasma. Liu developed Raising Dion as a comic book, with artist Jason Piperberg, and they released the first issue in 2015. Presumably the TV series will pick up the threads of the mysterious group that begins following Nicole and her son, as well as her fear that Dion’s powers may drive him to darkness.

Jordan’s character, Mark Warren, actually has a very big part in the first issue of Raising Dion, which established how he met Nicole. The issue also offered a partial explanation as to how Dion gained his abilities, and you can read it for free on Liu’s official siteRaising Dion will presumably begin production next year, but a premiere date on Netflix has yet to be announced.

Are you enticed by the premise of Raising Dion? Let’s discuss in the comment section below!
