Mastodon Release GAME OR THRONES Limited Edition Vinyl

Game of Thrones has a proud tradition of including musicians that the filmmakers love on the show. Members of Coldplay, The Hold Steady, Snow Patrol, and Sigur Ros have all netted cameo roles on the show. Last season, the dudes from the Mastodon appeared in an episode of Game of Thrones. This particular magical moment was put together by the shows executive producer, Dan Weiss, who is a big fan of the metal band. It made perfect sense, too, given Mastodon’s affinity for epic, story-driven metal and the simple fact that Game of Thrones is easily the most metal show on television. The band even have a song called “White Walker” that appeared on a Game of Thrones mixtape.

For that cross-section of fans who love Mastodon, Game of Thrones, and collectable vinyl, today is your lucky day. “White Walker” is now available on a limited edition picture disc via the Warner Music Store. The vinyl itself is freaking gorgeous, a piece of art in its own right. Mastodon have always put a lot of emphasis on their album’s visuals, and “White Walker” is no different. Welsh illustrator Richey Beckett provided the art and it is stunning. You can check out the artwork below and let that hideous monster haunt your dreams.

The song itself is a sad, yet beautiful number. It’s got more melody than your typical Mastodon track, but everything we love about the band is still present. Thunderous drums, wailing guitar solos, and atmosphere so thick you could slather it on your skin to protect you from the harsh rays of the sun. If you, like us, love Mastodon, you need to own this thing. If you love Game of Thrones but have yet to experience the majesty of a Mastodon song, go listen to the album Crack the Skye. Then come back here and check out “White Walker,” which you can hear below. You’ll thank us, guaranteed.

The “White Walker” vinyl can be purchased here, but hurry cause this thing will sell out faster than Arya’s oysters, clams, and cockles. Stuff this cool doesn’t hang around for long.
