Is Marvel Getting Ready To Add BLADE To the MCU?

Way back in August 1998, the original Blade movie proved that even a lesser known Marvel character could be a box office hero. Twenty years later, Blade is getting its due as one of the forerunners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But could the Daywalker be getting a modern day comeback? Wesley Snipes’ latest interview suggests that he’s spoken with Marvel about two possible Blade projects. What could Blade’s return mean for the MCU? Today’s Nerdist News is diving into the vampire underworld to sink our fangs into some answers.

Join Jessica Chobot, the host with all of their strengths, none of their weaknesses, as she dissects the comments Snipes gave to Vice. “We’ve created two projects that fit perfectly into this world,” said Snipes, before adding that he and Marvel have been “discussing [the projects] for the past two years.” Snipes also reiterated that he doesn’t see the need for anyone else to take over as Blade, which is still one of his signature roles.

How could Blade fit into the MCU? If Snipes returns to the role, Marvel could retroactively add the Blade trilogy to the current chronology. It would also indicate the shadow war between Blade and the vampires has largely gone unnoticed by the general public. There’s a lot of potential in that setup, and it would allow Marvel to make a fourth Blade movie or reintroduce the character in someone else’s film.

Another possibility would be to place Blade as the mentor character for a new vampire hunter, or even his own child. Marvel Comics actually planned to introduce Blade’s teenage daughter in a 2015 relaunch. However, those plans were shelved and it’s unknown if Blade’s daughter will ever appear in the Marvel Universe. The MCU could be an ideal place for a father-daughter Blade team, and it could also maintain continuity with the previous Blade films.

How do you think Blade should be used in the MCU? Do you want to see Snipes revisit his fan favorite role? Let’s discuss in the comment section below!
