Since its inception in 1978, the Sundance Film Festival has been a mecca for independent film. Every year, thousands of eager cinephiles, filmmakers, and festivalgoers brave the snowy peaks of Park City, UT to see the latest and greatest indie films around. This year, Nerdist was in attendance once again, and we saw some seriously inspiring pieces of art and talked to the talented cast and crew behind our favorite projects. Yet, we weren’t satisfied to simply be viewers, consuming art in a passive capacity; rather, we were instilled with the spirit of Sundance and wanted to create something. We wanted to make the ultimate indie movie, the film that could sweep the awards at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival.
In order to do so, we enlisted a murderer’s row of talented people– Mark Hamill, Annie Clark (a.k.a. St. Vincent), Jorma Taccone, Elijah Wood, Melanie Lynskey, Jaime King, Noël Wells, Jessica Williams, Roxanne Benjamin, Jovanka Vuckovic, Kumail Nanjiani, Emily V. Gordon, Jason Ritter, Marianna Palka, and Kyle Mooney–to help crowdsource the movie that you’ll be hearing about more than La La Land and Moonlight combined. The results may seem nonsensical, but I guarantee it’s more coherent than anything Terrence Malick has ever done.What do you think of our ultimate indie movie? Who do you think should star in this?
