LUKE CAGE Renewed for Season 2, and More TV News

Oh hey, it’s 20 days to Christmas. Or if it’s more relevant to you, it’s only 11 days until Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is out. With, those very important stats out of the way, let’s talk television news! Today’s TV-Cap has news about Luke Cage landing a second season, Sense8 getting a premiere date for season two and a Christmas special, some Bryan Fuller and Star Trek: Discovery details, and more.

Sweet Christmas! It’s happening: Marvel’s Luke Cage will come back to Netflix with a second season. When? The oh so specific “soon.” It’s okay. I can occasionally be patient. Get Blair’s thoughts about what could happen in season two here at Nerdist.

The Ending. Since Arrow premiered five years ago, we knew the flashbacks would only last a certain amount of time and we thought the series would end as it began, with Oliver seeing his imminent rescue. However, they didn’t know they’d have five seasons, so they’re wrapping up the flashbacks now. Series executive producer Marc Guggenheim told TVLine that the scene will end up being the season five finale. He said, “We always thought that we would intercut the final moment of the series with the first moment of the series, that it would form one big Möbius strip.” I’m looking forward to life in Star City without flashbacks. Read the complete interview with Guggenheim at TVLine.

Another Renewal. Also of note to some of you out there: Nickelodeon has ordered another season of School of Rock. The 20 episode third season will begin production in early 2017. [Deadline]

And He’s Out. We’d previously learned Bryan Fuller had stepped back from the showrunner role for Star Trek: Discovery, but now he’s apparently severing ties completely with the show. He told Newsweek he’s “not involved in production, or post-production, so I can only give them the material I’ve given them and hope that it is helpful for them.” He cited his other responsibilities keeping him from doing what CBS needed and wanted. Does this mean it’s time to panic? Probably not, but I will say the presence of Fuller had me more interested in the new Trek series. Read the full interview at Newsweek. [Deadline]

Joker Tease? Instagram user @mad_dog17_, a.k.a. Brian, said he was scrolling around Instagram when he saw the above photo of Gotham’s Cameron Monaghan. Apparently, Monaghan initially tweeted the photo but deleted it. If Monaghan’s Jerome is indeed the Joker, this could be a tease for him wearing his face like a mask, which is a thing that’s happened in the comics. The character is set to return to Gotham in January (see a promo above), so maybe? What do you think? [CBR]

Holiday Gift. Netflix’s Sense8 premiered in June 2015, and it’s finally time for the show to come back. Fans will get new footage soon, because a Sense8 Christmas special will drop on December 23. Hey, I’ll take all the Christmas specials I can get. Additionally, Netflix announced a premiere date for season two: May 5. [TVLine]

Teamwork, Dream Work. The Flash gets by with a little help of his friends often. Actually, he gets a lot of help from his friends. Blair looks at the importance of Team Flash right this way.

Casting Thoughts. Now that Anne Rice has announced The Vampire Chronicles is headed towards television, she’s is free to talk hopes and dreams. She spoke to Entertainment Weekly about where they are right now, what they want to start, and some qualities she’s looking for in casting. For example, she hopes an actor like Matt Bomer would play Louis de Pointe du Lac. Uh, yes, please. Read all her comments at EW. [Nerdist]

Rewind Time. You know the drill. We recap TV and you might have missed it, so just in case, please read our latest for Star Wars Rebels, Dirk Gently, The Walking Dead, and Westworld (especially Westworld, because… well you know).

What do you hope to see from season two of Luke Cage? Shout it out in the comments.
