Who is LEGENDS OF TOMORROW’S Citizen Cold?

Who is LEGENDS OF TOMORROW’S Citizen Cold?

It’s almost time for the Arrowverse’s annual giant crossover, and this season’s entry looks to be the biggest yet. Crisis on Earth-X will see Barry Allen and Iris West finally reach the altar only to be interrupted by alien Nazis from the titular planet. As the recent trailer showcased, it’ll once again be a full roster with characters from The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow!

When we visited The CW’s Vancouver studios, we spoke to Heat Wave himself, Dominic Purcell, who let slip that returning favorite Wentworth Miller might not be who we expect him to be. “Wentworth’s character now?” Purcell said. “It’s not Captain Cold! [It’s] Citizen Cold! So Citizen Cold is different to Captain Cold. Completely different.”

So just who is Citizen Cold? And what does his appearance mean for the beloved Arrowverse and his fellow Legends? Well, if his comics history is anything to go by, then we’re in for a truly wild ride. Originally created by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert, Citizen Cold is the Flashpoint timeline’s version of Rogues Gallery regular Captain Cold (who’s already been portrayed by Wentworth Miller in multiple Arrowverse shows). This is one seriously cool customer and boy is he a whole different kettle of fish.

In the Flashpoint timeline, Citizen Cold replaces Barry Allen as Central City’s main hero. But unlike the sweet speedster, Citizen Cold has no qualms about killing his enemies. He rises to fame off the back of brutally defeating the classic Batman villain, Mr. Freeze, and eventually goes rogue, freezing Wally West in a block of ice after the young hero discovers a dark secret.

Cold is eventually killed by Wally’s sister Iris, who freezes him with his own ice gun. Though The CW’s Flash series did their own brief version of Flashpoint that affected the whole Arrowverse, they never introduced Citizen Cold as Central City’s new hero, supplanting Barry with Wally’s Kid Flash in his stead.

So what does all of this mean for the Arrowverse and the upcoming crossover? Well, we know that Wentworth Miller will be portraying a new version of his beloved character, not just from Purcell but also from many of the recent Crisis on Earth-X promo materials. We also know that the show introduces a whole new set of supers, all of whom appear to be evil.

But could it be that Citizen Cold is one of the few heroes who survived the Nazi alien horror of Earth-X? Or maybe Barry’s been messing with the timeline again and Central City’s other hero somehow snuck through just in time to help our legendary heroes save the day?

We’ll have to wait ’til November 27 to find out for sure! Will you be tuning in to see the Legends of Tomorrow, Team Arrow, Team Flash, and Team Supergirl join forces to punch some Nazis? Or are you just sick of all the fictional Nazis that superheroes keep having to fight over and over again? Let us know in the comments!
