Kumail Nanjiani Warns Fans to Be Quiet During THE BIG SICK in New PSA (Exclusive)

This week, The Big Sick is coming to theaters, and it’s not like any romantic comedy that you’ve ever seen. Oh sure, there’s romance and comedy, but it also has the distinction of being based on the real life courtship of Kumail Nanjiani and his wife, Emily V. Gordon. Kumail not only co-wrote the movie with Emily (you can listen to them talk about it on the latest episode of Nerdist Podcast), he also stars in it as well. We think that The Big Sick is going to be a film that audiences can really get behind…if they can actually hear it.

Sad to say, but talking in theaters is still one of the big drawbacks of watching a movie in public. Fortunately, Kumail has a solution to this problem and he’s happily sharing it with us in this exclusive PSA that he created for Alamo Drafthouse. It turns out that some old fashioned shame can actually work quite well in this situation.

The Big Sick

You see, Kumail is a shusher. If you even think about opening your mouth during his movie, he’s going to bring his finger to his lips and let loose an epic shush. Grandmothers, children, you name it–he’ll shush them all in his quest for a quiet theater. After all, the whole point of going to movie theaters is to have the shared experience of a cinema with friends, family, and strangers.

If that’s not enough reason to show some decorum in the theater, then perhaps it should be enough to know that Kumail will shush until the breath leaves his body…and probably after that too!

The Big Sick is opening in Los Angeles and New York theaters on Friday, June 23, and begins expanding to additional markets on Friday, June 30.
