Final KING ARTHUR: LEGEND OF THE SWORD Trailer Lays Down the (Jude) Law

After months of emphasizing CG and fancy editing, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Guy Ritchie‘s take on Britain’s greatest legend, is taking a new tack, and emphasizing what could be its best special effect of all: Jude Law as the villain. It’s a quietly smart move, cashing in on his following as The Young Pope, and reassuring audiences that yes, there’s more to this story than an (admittedly amazing) giant armored elephant.

We also get to see that Ritchie is incorporating some of the Moses legend into Arthur’s story, as young Arthur is sent away by his parents to be raised in poverty, only to be found as an adult by Law’s Vortigern and used to extract Excalibur from the stone. But just as Monty Python sort-of put it, being handed a weapon by some watery tart doesn’t automatically confer chief executive power upon you. Charlie Hunnam‘s Arthur is going to have to work for his birthright, and probably kill a lot of people along the way. Considering how hard he clearly worked for those abs, he’s up to the task.

Seriously, though, where did they hide an elephant that large in England? Is it going to turn out to have been Skull Island all along? It looks like we’re getting a dragon as well, and maybe some water snakes. In the midst of all that, it’s still Law who looms large. I know it’s contrary to how the story goes, but after seeing this I almost want him to win.
