HEREDITARY Director’s Pagan Cult Movie Drops a Creepy Video

2018’s indie horror hit  Hereditary is one of the creepiest films to be released in years. Many have wondered what the film’s creator, Ari Aster, would end up doing next to follow up his feature film debut, and luckily for horror fans, it appears to be another creepy old school slow burn scare fest, in the tradition of Rosemary’s Baby and The Wicker Man.

February gave us our very first look at the film in the form of a quick, wordless, and decidedly creepy video posted to Twitter by A24:

According to a report from Collider, actors Jack Reynor and Will Poulter are nearing deals to join Florence Pugh in the untitled new horror movie from Aster. Also said to be joining the film are Vilhem Blomgren, William Jackson Harper, Ellora Torchia, and Archie Madekwe.

The premise of the film has Pugh and Reynor playing a couple that travels to Sweden to visit their friend’s hometown out in the countryside, just in time for its legendary midsummer festival. What begins as a perfect get away vacation quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition involving a pagan cult.

Hmm…seems Aster has a thing for weird pagan cults, doesn’t it? If this new movie is anywhere near as creepy and well made as Hereditary is, horror fans could be in for another instant classic. The film is coming from indie production company A24, which is behind such recent hits as Lady Bird and The Witch. Hereditary is their biggest worldwide hit so far, grossing over $80 million on a budget of $10 million. One can see why they’d want to stay in the Ari Aster horror movie business.

What do you think of Ari Aster continuing in the world of creepy horror films? Could we have us another Wes Craven or John Carpenter on our hands? Let us know what you think in the comments.
