Over thirty years since it was first released, ’80s vampire comedy The Lost Boys has become one of the most influential horror movies ever made, heralding the teenage vampire explosion in the following decades.
But as iconic as The Lost Boys is, some aspects of it are, shall we say, sadly lost to time. And I’m not just talking about Corey Haim’s posters of Rob Lowe in his bedroom, or all the references to Dynasty. Nope, the most “of its era” moment has got to be oiled up saxaphone player/rock singer Tim Capello, who rocked out at a local Santa Carla beach party with his song “I Still Believe” early in the movie. ’80s synthwave outfit, Gunship, think it’s high time for a Tim Capello comeback.
And a Capello comeback is exactly what we’re getting from the British synthwave band’s tribute to The Lost Boys with their new music video for their song “Dark All Day.” The animated video has references to Joel Schumacher’s 1987 movie like vampire hunting Frog Brothers (played by Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander) and Kiefer Sutherland’s iconic performance as the original bleach blonde bloodsucker, David. But easily the coolest part of this video is that it features none other than Mr. Capello himself, who appears in both animated and live action form, and he actually plays sax on the track. And for the eagle eyed viewer, they’ll notice reference to other vampire classics in this video, like Wesley Snipes’ Blade movies, and, of course, Buffy the Vampire Slayer — a series that definitely wouldn’t exist without The Lost Boys. If this doesn’t want to make you want to revisit Santa Carla, we’re not sure what will! “Dark all Day” is taken from the band’s forthcoming album of the same name, featuring a guest appearance from Kat Von D and an amazing cover of Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time.”
