WONDER WOMAN’s Gal Gadot Almost Played Furiosa in MAD MAX: FURY ROAD

In an alternate universe somewhere, actress Gal Gadot is famous for playing a formidable lady warrior up on the big screen… but not Wonder Woman. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast (via  Vulture), Gadot shared that she was the runner up for the part of Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road. Of course, that role went to Charlize Theron, who garnered much acclaim for the role from critics and fans alike, stealing the movie right from under Tom Hardy’s nose.

“I was runner-up for Mad Max with Charlize. I had so many almosts for big, great things, but I was never a big enough name … It was always me and the big name,” said Gadot. While we think that Gal would have made an interesting Furiosa, we are glad things played out the way they did and she ended up portraying Wonder Woman instead. If ever an actor and role lined up perfectly, it’s Wonder Woman and Gal Gadot.

Although Gal was not in the film, interestingly enough, another Wonder Woman was. Well, someone who was almost Wonder Woman — actress and model Megan Gale played the part of the Valkyrie in Fury Road, and she was originally cast as Wonder Woman for George Miller’s Justice League: Mortal film back in 2008. When that film fell apart, Miller gave her a role in Fury Road. (But if you want to know what Megan Gale would have looked like as Diana, do click on our story here).

Gal Gadot is not in any way resentful of Theron’s success with the role, though (duh). Plus, they have a mutual friend. “Charlize, I love. We have Patty Jenkins in common,” Gadot said, of course referencing Charlize Theron’s Oscar-winning portrayal in Patty Jenkins’ 2003 film Monster. Rumors abound that Charlize might play a role in Wonder Woman 2, maybe as one of the villains Cheetah or Circe. Now that is a clash of the titans we can all get behind.
