FUNKO Introduces CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Figures

Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War (a.k.a. Avengers 2.5) is due out this summer, but we’ll all soon be able to get our collecting mitts on Funko‘s signature line of adorable figures based on the characters of the film. While Civil War won’t directly follow the comic crossover arc of the same name, what we know so far is that the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron in Sokovia will result in a worldwide backlash against the involvement of superpowered heroes in the affairs of world peace. A pro-oversight faction forms within the Avengers themselves, with Tony Stark leading the charge in favor of government registration.

It’s a clear reversal for the character based on his earlier appearances in front of congressional committees, but his inadvertent creation of Ultron is likely the catalyst for his change of heart. Captain America still believes fully in the need for autonomous freedom for his peers, and so the divide shakes out between the entire Avengers roster. Based on the trailers, Black Widow attempts to play mediator between both sides of the fight, as well as between the Avengers and the US Government.

It’s pretty heady business, but it’s all made cuter thanks to Funko Pop!. One interesting reveal made by the tiny vinyls is War Machine’s blunt new weapon. So far, War Machine’s offensive weapons have been ballistic in nature, so it seems we’ll be seeing him partake in more hand-to-hand combat in the film. Even Agent 13 (Sharon Ross) is wielding what looks like a pair of escrima sticks. Everybody’s gonna be hitting everybody!

A few of the characters receive two variants – masked and unmasked – including new hero Black Panther and semi-new villain Crossbones. (Crossbones is the new identity of Hydra/SHIELD plant Brock Rumlow, last seen attacking Cap and Falcon in Captain America: Winter Soldier.) Funko is also expanding their Marvel Dorbz collection with new versions of Cap, Falcon, Winter Soldier, Black Widow, Vision, and Crossbones.
