First Look at Will Smith as SUICIDE SQUAD’s Deadshot (and Possibly His Costume Too)

After the reveal of Jared Leto’s version of the Joker in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, fans have been waiting to see what the other members of the anti-heroic supergroup would look like. Earlier today, leaked photos coming from the Suicide Squad set gave us our first glimpse at Will Smith as Floyd Lawton, a.k.a. Deadshot, doing a little holiday shopping.

So, he looks like someone fused Django and Shaft together, but he’s pulling off the look quite well. Another photo, courtesy of photographer Sean O’Neill, revealed another shot of Smith, as well as a mysterious figure in full combat armor that many are speculating may be Deadshot’s costume.

Is Deadshot’s costume in those shopping bags? In all seriousness, something tells me that isn’t actually Deadshot’s costume; rather, it will be another character who has yet to be identified. I find it hard to believe that they would do without Deadshot’s iconic targeting reticule eyepiece or make him look like a futuristic paintball player. Even Floyd Lawton’s civilian clothes evoke his comic book character’s color palette, so something doesn’t add up. It looks more aesthetically akin to Checkmate, another intelligence agency task force run by Amanda Waller that has ties to the Suicide Squad. Regardless, it’s cool to get a peek into the weird world of Suicide Squad that David Ayer and company are creating.

Deadshot first appeared in 1950’s Batman #59 as a gun-toting vigilante who tries to replace Batman while the Dark Knight and Robin were on vacation. However, he was secretly working with criminals to distract police from more heinous crimes, which Batman discovered and promptly put an end to. Later, Deadshot went on to become a hitman for hire, eventually joining the Suicide Squad after a botched robbery in Manhattan landed him in prison at Riker’s Island.

Suicide Squad opens in theaters on August 5, 2016.

What do you think of Floyd Lawton’s look? Is that really Deadshot’s costume? Let us know in the comments below.
