First Full STEVE JOBS Trailer Is Full Of Apple History

Aaron Sorkin’s forthcoming Steve Jobs biopic, appropriately titled Steve Jobs, is full of scenes where folks are being somewhat combative with the famously brusque tech revolutionary. It opens with Seth Rogen’s iteration of Woz, Steve Wozniak, asking Steve just what exactly is it that he does. He didn’t build a circuit board. He didn’t design an operating system. “What do you do, Steve?” Says Woz. “What do you do!?” In a self-aggrandizing statement befitting the longtime Apple CEO, Michael Fassbender’s Jobs shoots back “Musicians play their instruments. I play the orchestra.”

The trailer gives glimpses of many eras in Apple’s fabled history. From the garage beginnings, to the infamous Apple ousting of Jobs, right up to the debut of the iPhone, the movie appears as if it’s going to cover a mighty swath of Steve’s history. Apple’s history is Steve’s history and vice versa. In one brief moment, a reflection of what appears to be a version of the iconic iPhone homescreen interface can be seen in the glasses reflection of an older Jobs.

A number of Apple’s town hall-style product reveals appear to be the focus of much of the movie. The Macintosh I gets its due, and various crowds of people from each of those reveals can be seen stomping, clapping, cheering, as they wait for Apple’s next big thing. Kate Winslet stars as Joanna Hoffman, one of the earliest members of Team Apple who could — and would — stand up to Jobs and attempt to wrangle him down from his lofty grandstands. Rounding out the Big Four is Jeff Daniels (having recently worked with Sorkin on The Newsroom) who portrays “the other CEO” John Sculley. Sculley would be the one who led Apple in the non-Jobs years, and thus, the chief antagonist for Sorkin’s film.

Steve Jobs opens October 9th, which given Apple’s recent history is very likely going to be very near the release of the next iPhone. Well played, people who make the movie release scheduling decisions. Well played.
