The middle of summer is coming up fast, but July is going to be a surprisingly quiet month for Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. At least among genre shows and films, there’s not a lot to get excited about. But there may be some back catalog titles that catch your eye. Before we run down the complete lineup for each of the three major services, we’re shining a spotlight on a few of July’s best streaming options.
How to Talk to Girls at Parties
We really love Neil Gaiman‘s body of work, but even his most devoted fans may have missed How to Talk to Girls at Parties when it received a limited release last month. It’s based on one of Gaiman’s short stories, and takes place in the late ’70s as Enn ( Alex Sharp) meets Zan ( Elle Fanning), an otherworldly girl. As in “not of this Earth.” On July 24, Amazon Prime subscribers will see Enn and Zan’s courtship set against the backdrop of a Punks vs. Aliens showdown.
Castle Rock
The Americans: Season 6
On July 29, the sixth and final season of FX’s The Americans is coming to Amazon Prime, and it is not to be missed. This Cold War drama about a pair of married Russian spies, their children, and the unsuspecting FBI agents came to a gripping conclusion earlier this year. This might be the drama that walks away with the Emmy Awards’ top prize. If you haven’t seen it yet, The Americans is the perfect show for a binge watch.
