Evangeline Lilly Doesn’t Have Time for Men Complaining About Superhero Costumes

Evangeline Lilly is about to make history as the first woman to co-lead a Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero film. Ant-Man and The Wasp sees Lilly playing the titular Wasp, Hope van Dyne; it’s in theaters on July 6, and during her press rounds, Lilly spoke out about a double standard she noticed during filming.

“I have been hearing Marvel male superheroes complain about their suits for year, and I got into my suit and I was, you know, wearing it, working in it, doing my thing, and I was like, ‘It’s just not that bad,'” Lilly told BackstageOL‘s Dave Morales during an interview. She then wondered, “Do I have the most comfortable suit in the MCU, or have men not had the life experience of being uncomfortable for the sake of looking good?”To illustrate her point, Lilly lifted up her leg to show off her very uncomfortable-looking high heels, in a move so smooth it immediately earned the internet’s respect.

To be fair, Lilly isn’t the first Marvel lady to call out the male actors for being whiny about their costumes. When asked about her character suiting up in Iron Man 3 back in 2013, Gwyneth Paltrow responded, “It was nothing. It was just nothing at all. Women are so much stronger than men, oh my god. I was like, ‘What are they complaining about?’ It’s like, it’s not as comfortable as yoga pants, but it’s a costume.”

Never underestimate a woman. Especially not one who could kick your ass in a lycra superhero suit–while wearing high heels.
