Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron Run in Slow-Motion in the First BAYWATCH Trailer

The original Baywatch television show has famously inspired what could be considered one of the most well-know pre-internet memes. We’re sure you’ve seen at least a few shows/movies/comics/whathaveyou that have parodied the iconic slow-motion lifeguard run. Now, it’s 2016, and as the internet age continues strongly on, we have a new Baywatch movie on our hands, the first trailer of which just premiered (via EW).

There have been months worth of behind the scenes photos and teasers for the project, especially if you follow stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Zac Efron on social media. Through the trailer, some plot details have been revealed: Emerald Bay Beach Patrol has had their funding cut, so Baywatch needs a shot in the arm in order to survive. In comes Matt Brody (played by Efron), a two-time Olympic gold medalist who, to put it most simply, is a mega douche.

When they find a dead body on the beach, Mitch Buchannon (Johnson) and Brody have to put aside their differences in order to work together and pull the curtain back on the shady stuff that’s going on. The good news is that aside from all the action and toned beach bodies, it looks like Baywatch could be pretty hilarious. It’s directed by Seth Gordon, who also helmed the very funny Horrible Bosses; plus, the contrast between Johnson and Efron’s characters lends itself to humor. and there’s even a meta reference to the iconic slow-motion run in the trailer.

This could be a total winner, so take an early peek at the film above.
