Your Forgotten Neopets May Have Resorted to Eating Their Petpets

Allow me to present a scenario, which I ask that you analyze and then think about how you’d react in such a situation. Let’s say you’re in a situation where you’re unable to eat unless somebody checks up on you; for example, you’re a kid, your parents are stuck in a snowstorm, that same storm has snowed you in, and there’s no food left in the house. There are no ramen noodles, no old granola bars lying around, nothing. All that’s in the house is you and your pet dog. What do you do? Do you eat the dog? Even if you need to do that to survive, could you work up the nerve to make that call and actually go through with it?

If you’re like me, that’s a tough choice, but I don’t know if I could do it. I know somebody who could, though: Your Neopets.

Responding to a tweet from a fan that reads, “Rest In Peace to all the forgotten and neglected Neopets,” the Neopets Twitter account wrote, “Your Neopets are always waiting for your return! But if you haven’t checked on them in a while, don’t be surprised to find them nibbling on a Petpet…”

A couple things to know, in case you’re lacking context. The Neopets website allows you to raise a virtual pet online. Your Neopets can also have pets of their own, called Petpets. Neopets was most popular in the early 2000s, so the original tweeter’s joke was that people don’t really use it anymore. The Neopets Twitter account is implying some scary things, saying that you might return to your account to find just a pile of Petpet bones and a Neopet that has lost all trust in you. Dark stuff, man.

Your precious Neopet wouldn’t resort to such drastic measures… would it? Let us know what you think in the comments!
