Comedians By Artists

The glorious pop culture hive that is Gallery 1988 has teamed up with Funny or Die to produce “Is This Thing On?”, a show where 100 super kick-asstic artists have created portraits of their favorite comedians.

From Gallery 1988’s press release…

“…with artists like Tara McPherson, Alex Pardee, Eric Tan, Stella Im Hultberg, Mike Mitchell and Nathan Stapley reinterpreting icons like Richard Pryor, Don Rickles, Steve Martin, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Sarah Silverman and Woody Allen, you can only imagine how incredible the results will look. The show will feature paintings, prints, plush, sculptures and prints…”

You can sneak peek some of the work exclusively on FunnyOrDie before the snazzy opening reception Friday, Jan 7th from 7-11p.

And, oh yes, I HAVE BEEN PAINTED. I dunno how or why but an artist I LOVE, Casey Weldon has decided to depict me in some way. I haven’t seen it yet, but as a narcissistic comic I SUPPORT THIS CHOICE 100%. I also support bad math 110%.

“Is This Thing On?” runs through Jan. 29th at Gallery 1988, 7020 Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles.
