Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Cate Blanchett Try to Define “Ragnarok”

We’re only a week away from the U.S. premiere of Thor: Ragnarok, which means we finally get to see Thor build his team of “Revengers” to take on the goddess of death, Hela. To help build anticipation for the film, Marvel Studios has released an assortment of #Thorsday-themed videos that highlight a different aspect of the God of Thunder’s third feature film.

Today’s #Thorsday 101 asks, “What is Ragnarok?” Sure, you can look to your trusty Google (or Bing, if you’re feeling frisky) search engine to give you the answers, but what fun is that? The better alternative is having the stars of Thor 3Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Cate Blanchett — define Ragnarok for us.

Hemsworth begins by educating us on Norse mythology, Yggdrasil the World Tree, and the nine realms. Sensing fans may tune out the lecture, Ruffalo jumps in to suggest Blanchett have a go at it. The start of her presentation leans more towards word association, with positive words like hope, beauty, and justice used to define something that literally represents the death of all things. Things quickly change as the white background turns dark and the screen begins to shake. Blanchett’s cool, calm demeanor is replaced by Hela’s doom and gloom persona.

This isn’t even the first time the stars of Thor: Ragnarok have tried to explain the meaning of the dreaded “R”-word. Earlier this month, Marvel asked fans to define Ragnarok, with Ruffalo and Jeff Goldblum reading their answers. Suffice it to say, hilarity ensued.

Thor: Ragnarok lands like a bolt of lightning in movie theaters on Friday, November 3.

Who did a better job with their Ragnarok definition, Chris Hemsworth or Cate Blanchett? Let us know in the comments below.
