Chris Hardwick Makes the Leap to Late-Night on Comedy Central

Coming this fall to a television set near you – and because doing an epic hour-long comedy special wasn’t enough – our very own Chris Hardwick will be hosting/producing a brand new late-night show for Comedy Central. Airing  four nights a week at midnight this fall, following The Colbert Report, the untitled, but assuredly awesome show is co-produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Funny Or Die and has billion dollar screenwriters/Reno 911! creators Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant serving as executive producers/showrunners, so you know that this is coming from a proud pedigree of seriously funny folks. Formatted as a comedic panel show with plenty of social media integration throughout, the show sounds like the ideal opportunity for you to laugh in insomnia’s stupid face and tweet about it. In a word, #awesome. While we’ve been sitting on our hands about this exciting news for a while, we think Chris said it best:

And talk about it we shall. Are you excited to see Chris on Comedy Central? What would you like to see on the show? Let us know in the commentsb below!

Science Explains Why Your Cat Keeps Knocking Stuff Over

  1. AustinC says:

Will this show in Canada? Cause Canadians are nerp-people too!

  2. Ross says:

Well done, you thing from another world, you. We fans are very proud of you.
    Now, where’s my coffee, kid?

  3. Travis says:

I sure am glad we live in the age of DVR. I will be a dedicated viewer of Petes show, but would not miss a Hardwick Late Night Show if eyeholes were torn out.

  4. Ted says:

I am not optimistic about this.

  5. Laura says:

So many hugs and celebratory cupcakes coming your way! Your dedication and hard work are paying off! Well deserved!

  6. Steven says:

You are one hard working individual Mr. Hardwick. Look forward to watching in the fall!

  7. spiffster says:

So you’re going to have 3 TV shows, a Youtube Channel, An entire nerdwork of podcasts, a stand-up tour, and a relationship in there somewhere? I almost feel guilty for how much i’m enjoying the slow trip toward the inevitable burn out. Seriously, take care of yourself, don’t go all Chapelle on us.

  8. bucky says:

    Bowling segments?

  9. ricky says:

this is great news!!! but i hope he still keeps doing the show on BBC America and the talking dead

  10. Billis says:

Will Matt Mira be on the show so he can be adorkable?

  11. LisaB says:

This is such awesome new. I am so excited. Is it fall yet already? Congratulations!!!!!

  12. stormsaxon says:

Super Congrats! Hope it stays a little nerdy! Oooh, can Matt Mira do a version of Gadget Pron for the new show?

  13. Three Toes of Fury says:

    O U T S T A N D I N G
.Peace & Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Atitudes…if we couldnt laugh, we’d all go insane (j. butffet.)

  14. erik2690 says:

I know it’s not great, but my brain does have the little thought that pretty quickly thinks “does this mean less/no Nerdist podcasts?”. Despite that little thought and no matter what the answer is to it, I’m very happy for Chris and Nerdist. Seriously amazing. Nothing but love.

P.S. – Please do keep doing the podcast and is this the same concept as the Hardwired pilot or a new thing?

  15. Tiffany says:

I hope you’re not canceling any of your other programs, not that I want you to die of exhaustion or anything but you’re so entertaining! Loving the web, podcast, and BBC stuff!

  16. bastien says:

    P.S. Congrats

    P.P.S. Seriously, have a nap.

  17. bastien says:

    Dear Chris,

  18. CollinS says:

Chis and Pete both on late night means I will never get any sleep

  19. Caroline says:

Congratulations to Chris Hardwick who is a super hardworking and nice person! Chris, you deserve this. I appreciate your enthusiasm and general good vibe-y ness. You’re great!

  20. Riley says:

Just one more step toward Chris becoming the nerd’s very own Ryan Seacrest! Way to go man 🙂

  21. Xeroz says:

I think it’d be pretty cool to have a minute or so at the end to answer viewer questweetimails? (Questions/Tweets/E-mails)
Then ppl would be sure to watch it up to the very last minute. Sort of like what Craig Ferguson does with ‘tweets & emails’.
Do it in a sort of countdown mode where you have 1min. to answer as many questweetiments as you can. (Who doesn’t like Chris doing his ‘almosttofasttotellwherethewordsstop’ voice?)

Even if it’s not considered, I wish you and everyone involved the best in this Nerdventure to bring what we already love into the mainstream.

Woah, wait a minute… Won’t this put you in ‘sort-of’ direct competition with the ‘Late Late Show’ for viewers?

  22. Frank Gillen says:

oh fuck yes ! I’m so proud of you dude! I hope things keeping getting bigger and we see your mug on the big screen

  23. Tom says:

    HOST! ALL the channels!

  24. Joe Vichich says:

And then Chris Hardwick never died.

    Congratulations on another new project!

  25. Emily says:

I am so excited! Congratulations Chris! This is fantastic news! Did I mention that I am so excited?

  26. Chris Stuewe says:

    Theme song by Senior Abuelito?

  27. Kevin says:

  28. Lisa Rowley says:

Congrats! I really like the panel-show format so popular in Britain. But that might be a bit much for a full hour. I trust with the pedigree of those currently assembled, the show will be amazing. I’m in.

  29. Tom says:

This is awesome!! How can I get a job on this show? Is it shooting in LA!

  30. Atticus says:

Congratulations Big C. Hour long format with names like Lennon, Ferrell and Hardwick behind it it’s going to be good! Also with Stewart and Colbert as lead ins that’s bound to be exciting. Hopefully this doesn’t affect the podcast too much. But if it does I’d be excited to see Jonah or Matt behind the reins on a guest episode without our fearless leader 🙂

  31. Ethan Hensler says:

Holy amazeballs, Batman!! This is awesome news for anybody who has a funny bone. Well done and best wishes to all involved!! Can’t wait to watch!!!

  32. rhzunam says:

I love Chris but I hope he isn’t spreading himself too thin. There almost so much time in the day. Already in the Podcast it’s more common and more common that the 3 guys aren’t on the show because of commitments.

  33. JetpackBlues says:

    Well DAMN! 😮

  34. Taylor M. says:

Mwahaha. Chris continues his domination of the airwaves! But seriously, congrats to Mr. Hardwick and all the people involved on this.

  35. Josh S. Williams says:

Wooohooo! can’t wait to see it. Hopefully I’ll have my satellite hooked back up by then. (damn cows knocked it down)

  36. Mandy W. says:

Congrats Chris!!! And the awesome team of people involved, i can’t wait! I really wonder what they are going to call it…

  37. Potch says:

I love idea as long as it doesn’t affect Talking Dead or The Nerdist.

  38. Stacy says:

If I could quote Macklemore: “THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME!”

  39. jm5150 says:

there goes my late night with chris hardwick idea

  40. Leah says:

So exciting!!! I can’t wait. I’m never going to get to bed on time now…

  41. gabe says:

    Mazel Tov, Chris!

  42. From Jon Stewart joking that Chris Hardwick “gets our coffee” …
to appearing on the same network just ONE HOUR LATER …
and this accomplished in less than ten years time.

If anyone needed proof that “The Nerdist Way” works, this is it!

Congratulations, Chris. You deserve this opportunity, and I wish you every possible success!!

  43. carrie says:

This is awesome, congrats Chris! Not sure when you’re going to be able to fit in the post Game of Thrones talk show now though.

  44. Beaucifer says:

Okay Chris, as a dedicated fan of years of your work I think it’s time to have an intervention about your workaholism. I’m not saying you should stop. I just think you should take note.

  45. aredubya says:

Congrats Chris! Only one problem with this: if all goes well, you’ll be going head-to-head with Pete Holmes’s new show. Taking about making it weird…

  46. logan says:

  47. Marcus says:

Get Pete Holmes on the show, in case I decide to watch your show instead of his.

  48. Randy Burgan says:

[email protected]&k yes you entertaining SoB

  49. Ben OKun says:

This is wonderful news! Congratulations Chris! Really looking forward to what you and the showrunners are going to produce. Is this going to be in a similar format to shows such as Chelsea?
