Celebrate National Pancake Day With an Actual Maple Syrup Bath

Celebrate National Pancake Day With an Actual Maple Syrup Bath

For me, the hardest part of taking a bath is choosing how to enhance the relaxation process. Should I opt for bubbles or a vanilla scented bath bomb? If your bathing dilemma runs more along the lines of “what if I want to fully immerse myself in pancake mix?”, you’re in luck: Japan has answered your incredibly niche prayers with a maple syrup scented bath.

Via RocketNews24, we’ve learned that since March 3rd, Hakone Kowakien Yunessun hot springs resort has introduced the “hot cake bath” to help celebrate the passing of National Pancake Day (which was February 28th). The decision to let guests soak in the smell of this sweet buttery treat makes sense, as the resort is also famous for having the option to bathe in green tea, coffee and wine. Although the end result may leave your skin sticky, the flip side to bathing in a maple syrup scented bath is that you’ll smell delicious.

The ability to bathe in maple syrup is in collaboration with the Japanese confectionary company Morinaga, where the staff at the resort will pour actual bottles of the syrup into baths three times a day. Unlike traditional hot springs, this special bath is located inside the resort’s “swimsuit area” which means bathers won’t be nude. It’s a great activity to take part in for those who want to experience onsen culture without wanting to bare it all–trust me, it’s intimidating to enter a public bathhouse knowing that there’s no towel to retreat to.

The special pancake bath is sticking around until April 25th, so if you’re in Japan, act fast. For those of us who want to celebrate locally without having to travel, IHop’s National Pancake Day is March 7th…
