Beautiful Paper Cut-Out Art Depicts Black Panther and More

2018 was a pivotal year in pop culture, as we saw the rise of Black Panther in the mainstream thanks to his blockbuster film, but also sadly saw the loss of his creator, Stan Lee. Now, thanks to the folks at The Laughing Squid, we’ve learned about an artist from the Philippines named  John Ed De Vera, who used his preferred art technique involving a 3 dimensional cut paper stacking method, to pay tribute to not only Stan Lee and the Black Panther, but others iconic names in entertainment.

Some of the characters he’s created art for are the Into the Spider-Verse version of the Miles Morales Spider-Man, along with the real life person who helped inspire him, Donald Glover. Two of 2018’s biggest on-screen superheroes, Deadpool and Iron Man, also get pieces dedicated to them, as does  Game of Thrones Mother of Dragons, Daenerys Targaryen, and even  Pennywise the Clown from It.

Of course, the world of Star Wars gets a nod, with a Stormtrooper from Return of the Jedi and a lovely tribute to Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia as well.

De Vera is also a big music fan, and he has created pieces spotlighting popular musicians like Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, and Chris Cornell. He’s also made touching tributes to some of the music legends who passed away in the past few years like Prince, George Michael, and David Bowie.
